Remember, any student that fails 3 or more classes,1st semester, will be academically ineligible to participate in any clubs, sports or activities by the Kansas High School Activity Association (KSHSAA). Semester grades determine the next semester eligibility. Keep on your students to keep their grades up.
A Principal's Rant!!! The OPS high school dress code supports our students to express themselves through the way they dress. I can support this, but want to share that the idea of business casual or even causal dress is something of the past. I go as far as to say that some of our students dress inappropriately for school but our in the constraints of the district dress code. As well as some students that break the rules of the dress code. I understand that as a parent you may be thinking that the staff of Olathe North just needs to deal with this. I agree, however I feel that some of our students are dressed one way when they leave the house and change before they come to school. I feel some parents do not realize what their student is wearing in our building. I am requesting that parents visit with their students about what they are wearing to school. I feel a more professional approach to our students attire could lead to a safer and more academically focused institution. I have attached the district dress code if you are interested in seeing it.
We have a lot of events that occur at the beginning of the school year, please make sure that you are always checking https://www.sunflowerleague.org/g5-bin/client.cgi?G5genie=403 Sunflowerleague.org to see the building live calendar. I will also try to get many of the events on important date information below.
Jason Herman, Principal
Olathe North High School
OPS Expanding Naloxone Program at High Schools and Athletic Complexes
Olathe North Families,
We wanted you to be aware that our school is expanding our supply of Naloxone (commonly known as NARCAN), a medication that can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose and can be safely and easily administered to individuals of all ages. In addition to our nurse’s office, NARCAN will now be stocked next to the AED defibrillator at our school and at our district athletic complexes.
Most opioid overdoses are accidental and can happen anywhere. As you may know, the Drug Enforcement Agency has warned that colorful pills have entered the counterfeit drug market, with the intent of making the pills look like candy. Our school district wants to be prepared for any emergency situation. Emergencies do not always happen during the school day, so having NARCAN near the AED defibrillator would allow for access to this lifesaving medication at any time. Our top priority is and always will be the safety of our students and staff.
Various school staff members have been trained on how to recognize the signs and symptoms of opioid intoxication and how to deliver NARCAN quickly and effectively. If emergency medication, such as NARCAN or Epinephrine is administered, we will call 911 and our district emergency management system will be activated. However, it can be lifesaving if an individual is experiencing an opioid overdose.
While we hope to never use NARCAN, we believe having it available and more accessible in our building is a good addition to the list of lifesaving medications we already carry in case of an emergency.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Jason Herman,
Olathe North Principal

FOR JUNIORS ONLY! Optional Free ACT
FOR JUNIORS ONLY! Optional Free ACT
FOR JUNIORS ONLY!
On Tuesday, February 25, 2025 while other students are in their classes, Juniors across the state are offered the opportunity to take an OPTIONAL, but Free ACT test during the school day.
The FREE ACT on February 25: The ACT is a 3+ hour standardized test used for 4-year college admissions. The ACT test covers four academic skill areas: English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science Reasoning. This test is optional and is not necessary for everyone pursuing college. Many schools are making it optional and is being used for those competing in scholarships. For example, a student planning on a two-year college can take that college’s placement test (like at JCCC) at no cost. In fact, the ACT is not a necessity at most community colleges.
Would you like your student to sign up? They can go to the link found in their school email (sent by Mr. Tarwater). Links will also be posted in the building and available through their advisory. Students will NOT do anything to sign up with ACT on their online site like a regular Saturday test.
*Enrollment for the ACT will run from now through Friday, Nov. 15. There are no late enrollment options.
If you have questions regarding this special ACT testing, contact Jim Tarwater - jtarwateron@olatheschools.org or in room 216 at ONHS.

Yearbook Information for Seniors
Olathe Theater 2024-2025 Season
Class of 2025 FASFA Information
We are trying something brand new this year that could result in you winning Airpods, an Amazon Fire tablet, or a Kindle!
So what do you have to do? Create an FSA ID!
To get a head start on the FAFSA for this year, every Senior and their parents are encouraged to create their FSA ID as soon as possible! You will use your FSA ID to log-in and complete the 2025-2026 FAFSA when it is open. If you are a parent or a student that wants to create your FSA ID at home, you can do so by visiting StudentAid.gov.
Please note that if you are a parent who already has an FSA ID from when you or one of your older children went to college, you DO NOT and CANNOT create a new one. If you do not remember the log-in information for your old account, follow the steps to recover that information!
I have created my FSA ID and so have my parents. Now what? Send screenshots that show you have created these accounts to Mr. Van Winkle at lvanwinkle@olatheschools.org (use the subject line: FSA ID Raffle Entry) or stop by his office to show him in person. For every FSA ID that is created between you and your parents, you will be entered into the raffle.
*Maximum of THREE entries allowed! Entries will be deemed eligible for the raffle if received by Friday, September 27th at 3:00 PM! Names will be drawn the next week!*
I have a special circumstance that prevents me from getting three entries – what do I do? We know that every family is different and there may be reasons that you are unable to have three entries that are completely out of your control – you live with a legal guardian, you do not have contact with one or both parents, you live in a single-parent home, etc. If you know that you have a special circumstance that does not allow three entries, reach out to Mr. Van Winkle and we will work together to see what we can do!
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Mr. Van Winkle at lvanwinkle@olatheschools.org! Good luck!
