ES3 PARENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
The Country Dale ES3 team would like to share a new feature with you called Happy Home. Each week we will pass along some tips to help keep your home as happy and healthy as possible during Safer at Home. ES3 is a three-year state-funded grant program with the mission of improving outcomes for students who require social and emotional support. We can ALL use social and emotional supports, especially now, so we hope you enjoy!
Our tips for this week can be used prior to starting learning, or anytime your child needs a break to be ready to learn. The first set of activities are for breathing and self-regulation and the second set of activities are additional movement tips.
Exercises for Breathing and Self-Regulation
(When feeling overwhelmed or “off task”)
Activity One
-Square breathing: Make a square shape with your hands while breathing.
1)Put your hands out like you are about to clap.
2) Breathe in for 3 seconds (while moving each hand outward)
3) Hold for 3 seconds (move hands down)
4) Breathe out for 3 seconds (move hands towards each other)
5) Hold for 3 seconds (move hands back up to complete the square)
6) Do this for 5 repetitions for a one minute activity.
Activity Two
-Mindfulness 5-4-3-2-1
Sit comfortably in a chair and focus on the world around you.
Name five things you can see
Name four things you can hear
Name three things that you feel
Name two things that you can smell
Name one thing you can taste
Activities for When your Body Needs Movement
Activity One
-Heart Beat Exercise
Complete a heavy exercise for one minute. (Example, 3 round trip obstacle courses, 60 jumping Jacks, 20 sit down-legs out and back, stand up cycles, 20 burpees).
Feel your heartbeat and breath rate.
Take a short walk to slow down.
Feel your heartbeat and breathing. Notice how you can help your body slow down.
Activity Two
-Go to https://www.gonoodle.com/ for exercises and brain breaks.
Or, see how many repetitions of the following activities you can do in a minute or until a sand timer runs out.
-situps, burpees, squats, walking lunges, stomps, use your imagination!

TEACHER REQUESTS FOR 2020-21
As we look at the calendar we are reminded that the last few months of the school year are fast approaching. We would like to make you aware of some important information regarding your child’s placement for next year.
Several factors are used to develop class lists including: learning styles, academic and social skills, talents, groupings, balances, special needs, and class sizes. All teachers including music, physical education, art, speech, special education, reading and ESL have an opportunity for input into class lists.
While we are not able to accommodate teacher requests or specific student/friendship placements, please reach out to your child’s current teacher if there is something you feel they should keep in mind as they create lists for next year. You can also contact Mrs. LaPlant if you feel it is necessary. We ask that any pertinent information is shared with teachers or Mrs. LaPlant by May 15th as teachers will soon be working on lists and it is difficult to make changes once the work is done.
Be assured teachers have the “big picture” and will make the best classroom choices for all our students. Also, keep in mind that each child and grade level class as a whole is different from year to year. Please understand that younger siblings may not have the same teacher as their older siblings have had.
Thank you for your cooperation as we make these complex decisions.
