Lowell Newsletter Winter 24-25
We are proud of our pride of Lowell Lions!
From Principal Franzone
Dear Lowell Families,
I write this just days after the tragedy at Abundant Life. Our collective hearts break for the students, staff, and families impacted. As we approach winter break, I want to extend my heartfelt wishes that all Lowell families and staff are able to find peace, comfort, and joy during the coming weeks. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the new year (with hopefully some snow for us to play in!).
Warmly,
Ellen

Winter Weather Information
As the cold weather settles in, we are sometimes asked about our guidelines for keeping students indoors for recess because of the temperature. We will always consider indoor recess when the wind chill dips below ten degrees, and will absolutely keep students in if the windchill is 10 below. We take all of the following into account as we make these decisions:
temperature and wind chill,
length of recess time,
appropriate outdoor clothing.
We always keep student safety at the forefront while remembering that young children need to run and play in the fresh air! Please make sure to send outdoor gear (coats, snow pants, boots, hats, and waterproof gloves/mittens) every day. If your student needs any of these supplies, they can usually borrow them from the school. We can usually also get students their own gear; please reach out to the office if your child needs something.
Badger Rock Lottery for Current 5th Graders
Dear Families of 5th Grade Students,
It is hard to believe that it is time to start planning for your scholar’s transition to middle school! Badger Rock is an optional middle school choice for students residing in Madison, regardless of high school attendance area. Enrollment priority will be given to siblings of students currently attending Badger Rock who will continue to attend as 7th or 8th graders next year as long as you apply during the lottery window. Each year 40 students are selected.
Following Winter Break, on January 10th at 5:30 pm, Principal Joey Rosas and our staff will be hosting an in-person open house & CommUNITY Dinner with Rooted for potential incoming 6th-grade parents & students; all are welcome to attend to learn more about our school & neighborhood.

Entering the Building during the School Day
School doors are locked and intercom systems are used throughout the school district to help ensure the safety of our students during the school day. When visiting Lowell, please follow the steps below:
Come to the main entrance on Maple Avenue and press the buzzer to the left of the door.
Office staff will ask for your name and the reason for your visit. Please state your name, your student’s name (if applicable), and your purpose for being at the school.
After entering the building, proceed directly to the Main Office and check in using Visitor Aware.
Though we recognize many of you, we still need everyone to follow these procedures, every time they visit Lowell.

Visitor Aware FAQ may be found here.
If you have not previously registered in the office, you may pre-register here.
Thank you for following our safety procedures!
