The Woodland Weekly
November 8, 2024
Dear Woodland Families,
I hope this message finds you well. This past month, we highlighted the importance of Respect and encouraged students to practice it not only in school but also at home. We hope you’ve noticed respectful behavior because we have! Students have really stepped up their respectful behavior and before we leave for Thanksgiving recess, one respectful classroom will earn the coveted CARES trophy.
Next month, our school will focus on Responsibility as the next CARES behavior. Responsibility involves understanding the importance of being accountable for our actions, completing tasks on time, and taking ownership of both our successes and mistakes. We’ll be talking with students about what responsibility looks like in different settings, including the classroom, home, and community. As a kick-off event, we are bringing in the NED Show’s Mindset Mission Assembly, which will teach kids to Never give up, Encourage others, and to Do their best. Responsible students are successful students!
We encourage you to reinforce these discussions by talking with your child about ways they can act responsibly at home—like completing chores, taking care of personal items, and following household rules. By working together, we can help our students develop strong character skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.
Thank you for your partnership in helping our students grow into respectful and responsible individuals.
Warm regards,
Emma and Kayla

NED is going to teach them the importance of perseverance and a positive mindset. In this interactive assembly, students will learn about never giving up, encouraging others, and doing their best today and every day. The PTO will send home more information as the day comes closer. GIVING TREE- HELPING FAMILIES FOR THE HOLIDAYS
As the fall weather is upon us -- we know the holidays will be here before we know it! For many years, our community has come together to support families in need during this time.
If your family is experiencing some hardships right now, our Holiday Giving Tree community is here for you.
Here's how the Giving Tree works:
- Families in need, please reach out to Maryanne Margiotta at mmargiotta@stgrsd.org
Create a wish list for each child (infant to age 18), providing:
1. Gender and age of child or children
2. Sizes for clothing items, shoes, and boots. Clothing items to consider are coats, snow pants, hats and gloves, shirts, pants, pajamas, socks and underwear.
3. Specific toys, games, and arts and crafts selections. What does your child really want? Please do not ask for computer electronics, phones, video games, gaming systems, or gift cards, as we will be unable to honor your request.
If any families in our community would like to help us fulfill our wish list requests, we would appreciate any help at all you are able to give us. We will put out a request for particular items through Sign Up Genius.
Many of our generous supporters will be ordering online and like to take advantage of sales, particularly around Thanksgiving. Coordinating this support takes time and a lot of communication, so we ask you to please respond promptly if you need some help this holiday season.
If your family needs our support, we are glad to assist -- but we will need time to fulfill your request. For this reason, the deadline to submit your wish list to us is TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12.
Please know that family information is kept confidential and that there is no judgment in asking for help. We all struggle from time to time and have to overcome many challenges. Leaning on each other helps to get through those tough times. We are a strong community -- and we are here for you!
Turkey Trot: November 25
All Woodland students will participate in the annual Turkey Trot on Monday, November 25th (rain date, November 26th). Students in kindergarten through grade 2 will run around the track, and preschool will have morning and afternoon trots around the baseball diamond. This is an opportunity for students to fundraise for the PTO, show school spirit, and exhibit their best effort running. They may even get a fun surprise in the teacher race! Remember to dress warm as we will be outside for over an hour for this fun event!

Substitutes Needed
Woodland School needs substitutes for the 24-25 school year. Being a substitute offers great flexibility, because you can choose the days you want to work! When teachers are absent, they leave the substitute a detailed lesson plan to follow. Interested? Have questions? Give us a call at 413-569-6598.
