WPUSD eNews: June 2025
As the final bell rings and classrooms grow quiet, the last chapter in our school year comes to a close.
To our parents and families—thank you. You are the steady presence behind every early morning, every packed lunch, every word of encouragement. Your partnership is the foundation of all we do.
To our students—what a journey it’s been. You’ve grown in knowledge, in courage, and in heart. Whether you’re heading into summer adventures or preparing for the next big step, know that we are proud of the person you are becoming.
And to the Class of 2025: Congratulations, graduates! You’ve crossed the stage and stepped boldly into the next chapter of your lives. As you leave our campuses behind, know that you carry with you the hopes of an entire community and the lessons shaped by years of hard work, growth, and connection. Wherever your path leads—from college to careers to the wide world waiting beyond—go forward with confidence. You’ve made us proud. You always will.
Here’s to rest, renewal, and all the joy that summer brings.

Volunteer / Teacher Bondđź’ž
"I'm so grateful for [the SCHOOLS] group and the opportunity to volunteer in the schools—it's exactly what I hoped to do after retiring from teaching. Being with Katy all these years has been truly wonderful."
—Barbara Fickel, SCHOOLS Volunteer
Some connections go beyond the classroom—and some last nearly TWO DECADES!
For 19 years (no, that's not a typo), volunteer Barbara Fickel and teacher Katy Evangelisti have worked side by side, forming a lasting bond through their shared commitment to students. What began as a simple offer to help has grown into a meaningful partnership built on trust, teamwork, and a love for education.
Celebrating a Hero!
At a recent Board of Trustees meeting, the Board presented Christopher Grayson with a Certificate of Heroism for his quick-thinking and courageous actions during a woodshop emergency. When a fellow student suffered a serious hand injury, Christopher didn’t hesitate—he literally took the shirt off his back to help stop the bleeding and provided first-responder level care until help arrived.
Christopher plans to become an EMT, and after learning of his calm under pressure and compassion in action, we have no doubt he’s on the right path.
Thank you, Christopher, for stepping up when it mattered most. You’re a true example of leadership and heart.
