At Daffron Elementary, we are committed to providing a nurturing and supportive learning environment for all of our students. An important part of this commitment is ensuring that students attend school regularly, as consistent attendance is essential for their academic success and overall development.

In accordance with the Compulsory Attendance Laws, we would like to inform you of the following attendance guidelines:

1. Unexcused Absences: If a student accumulates 10 or more unexcused absences or tardies (parts of days) within a 6-month period, they may be referred for violation of Compulsory Attendance Laws. Please note that students are considered tardy if they arrive after 7:40 a.m. Additionally, elementary students will be counted absent if they arrive after 9:00 a.m.

2. Excessive Excused Absences: After a student has accumulated seven (7) excused absences, a doctor's note may be required for each subsequent absence. If a doctor's note or verification from the school nurse is not provided, the absence will be counted as unexcused.

3. Attendance Expectation: All students are expected to attend at least 90% of the school days. Regular attendance plays a crucial role in your child’s educational success, and we are here to support you in ensuring that your child meets this expectation.

We understand that there are circumstances that may prevent a child from attending school, and we are here to work with you to address any concerns or challenges that may arise. If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our office.

PACE provides services for students who require academically gifted enrichment services and have demonstrated the need for advanced, differentiated instruction. PACE at the elementary level is a weekly pull out program in which students are removed from the general education classroom to work under the guidance of a gifted specialist. The time spent in the PACE program will vary according to the grade level of the student. For more detailed information about the PACE program, please refer to the following link:

Students in K-5 are assessed in the first semester (fall) to determine placement in the second semester. District-wide CogAT tests administered to first, third and fifth grade students are part of the data used to determine the need for gifted services for these three grades. All other grades will be administered the district approved battery of PACE assessments in the fall.

Students may be referred for gifted services by teachers, parents, principals, counselors, or by the students themselves. Students are assessed at their home campus during the school day.

Students new to Plano who received gifted services in a previous district should contact the campus gifted specialist to submit assessment scores from your previous school for review and consideration.

Students may only test once a year.

All medications including over the counter medications/ointments/cough drops must have a doctor’s order/signature this year.

Check your child’s vaccine record in skyward family access. All children must be up to date on vaccines to attend school. Please email an updated record once received.

Plano ISD participates in the federal meal program, which provides free and reduced-price meals for students who qualify. Families who may qualify for meal benefits are encouraged to complete a federal meal application for the 2024-25 school year. Applications may be completed through SchoolCafé by logging in to your account, or by creating a new account.

Una parte importante de este compromiso es garantizar que los estudiantes asistan a la escuela con regularidad, ya que la asistencia constante es esencial para su éxito académico y desarrollo general.

De acuerdo con las Leyes de Asistencia Obligatoria, nos gustaría informarle las siguientes pautas de asistencia:

1. Ausencias injustificadas: si un estudiante acumula 10 o más ausencias o tardanzas injustificadas (partes de días) dentro de un período de 6 meses, puede ser referido por violación de las Leyes de Asistencia Obligatoria. El Distrito Escolar Independiente de Plano provee programas especiales para estudiantes superdotados y talentosos en grados K-12, que demostraron la necesidad de una instrucción avanzada y diferenciada. El programa de dotados de la escuela elemental consiste en instrucción fuera de clase algunas horas cada semana con la especialista de dotados.

Los estudiantes referidos en K-5 se evalúan en el primer semestre de otoño para determinar la colocación en enero. Los exámenes de CogAT que son administrados en todo el distrito a estudiantes de primero, tercero y quinto grado son parte de los datos utilizados para determinar la necesidad de servicios para superdotados. Kinder, segundo y cuarto grado recibirán la batería de evaluaciones PACE aprobada por el distrito después de ser referido.

Los estudiantes pueden ser referidos al programa de superdotados por maestros, padres, directores, consejeros o por los mismos estudiantes. Los estudiantes referidos son evaluados en sus respectivas escuelas durante el día escolar.

Para Kinder – 5to Grado es el 11 de octubre de 2024. (5:00 PM)

Estudiantes de primaria nuevos al distrito de Plano que participaron en un programa de superdotados en su escuela anterior deben de ponerse en contacto con el especialista de superdotados de la escuela y entregar los datos de los exámenes para ser revisados y considerados.

Los estudiantes solamente pueden tomar los exámenes una vez al año.
