Straight from the Hardt
Hello Ridgeline Families— Where does the time go?...welcome to October! Thank you to all families and students who were able to swing by our open house/Back To School event Thursday night. The reason we host this event yearly is to give you a chance to meet your child’s teachers and have quick conversations that might be helpful both ways. It’s also a great time to introduce parents to the many activities and athletics that you may not even know existed here at Ridgeline. You’ve often heard us mention how valuable it can be for students to get engaged in school outside of the classroom. Research highlights improved self-confidence and greater sense of belonging as a couple reasons to push your reluctant teen to branch out.
Who wants to talk Parking Lots?! It is imperative to continue to pull forward in the valet lane when dropping off and picking up. I’ve noticed drivers are very forgiving with space and there’s almost no tail-gating. I wonder how many more cars we could get in if we reduced that space to 3-4 feet instead of a car length? We’d still have a safe distance for students who slip through cars and we still need continued cautious entering of traffic, but it could help decrease wait time.
We’re ready to deploy another new strategy for the A.M. drop-off ONLY. We think this could greatly improve our flow in the morning and get more kids into first period on time. PLEASE READ Mr. LeGrant’s description of our plan below.
ALSO… we’re bringing back Reserved Senior Parking Spots! Below you can read a special offer from the Ridgeline Boosters on how you can reserve a spot with their name painted on it for the remainder of the school year!
If you’re driver isn’t a senior you might ignore this message…BUT DON’T! The map below outlines the spots we are reserving for seniors and that may impact where your student driver is currently parking on a regular basis. We’re going to be asking them to find another spot in the lot, and the expectation is that students will not park in reserved senior parking. They will know if their spot is taken if they see a senior’s name painted there.
As you know, it is becoming more common for social media and “swatting” threats to show up in our region. While today’s threat was not credible, we follow numerous protocols every-time, for every type of threat that could be directed at our schools. Students are reminded to continue to keep their eyes and ears open and report any concerns to admin or campus security whether they think it’s serious or not. Likely a similar message you give them as well.
Homecoming Week is just around the corner and information about the week’s events capped off by the dance October 14, are outlined below. For parents new to the high school experience, just a reminder that the dances are another way to build community from within our school. Encouraging your teen to attend, at least one event like this per year is recommended! Many students opt to come with friends and others ask a date, all options are good options! Showing up is the best option.
My featured picture here today is with Ridgeline junior, Alexandra House. I knew her as a varsity soccer player and then I found out she’s also a talented artist! We selected her original artwork to be made into our custom post-card/thank you notes we’ll use throughout the year. I’m still trying to figure out what my one true talent is, and Alexandra already has two!
Make it a great weekend everyone! –Mr. Hardt
