Weekly Update to Families

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Happy New Year and welcome back! I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday season, filled with joy and relaxation. It has been such a pleasure to welcome our students back to school after the winter break, and I wanted to take a moment to celebrate our successful first week back.

The energy in our classrooms has been vibrant, and it’s been exciting to see the students reconnecting with their peers and diving back into their learning. We are all ready for the fresh opportunities that the new year brings, and we are committed to providing our students with the support, guidance, and encouragement they need to thrive.

As we continue into the second half of the school year, we remain focused on fostering a positive and nurturing environment where every child feels valued and supported. We look forward to the continued growth, learning, and achievements that will take place throughout this semester.

This month's spotlight member is Heather Jones! Heather currently serves as a Special Education Assistant at Goodwater, where she has been an invaluable employee since 2020. Beyond her primary role, Heather also takes on the important task of serving breakfast to our students every morning, along with many other duties as assigned. Her reliability, strong work ethic, and dedication make her an integral part of our team.

Mr. Aaron Ball, our Special Education Director, praised Heather, saying, "She is dependable, knowledgeable, a team player, and never complains."

We hope you and your family had a joyful and restful holiday season.

As we welcome our students back for an exciting Spring 2025 semester, we would like to extend an invitation to our parents and caregivers to volunteer with us this spring.

We are currently in need of volunteers to support our library. With your help, we can provide more opportunities for students to visit and enjoy the library as we continue updating it. Additionally, we are seeking volunteers to assist with our orchard program, especially as we prepare for spring. Your help in guiding students to and working within the orchard would be greatly appreciated.

We also want to remind you about our upcoming Board Meeting on January 21, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at Goodwater Montessori. January is Board Appreciation Month, and we look forward to recognizing our board members for their invaluable support of our students, families, and staff.

What is school choice? School choice is the process of allowing every family to choose the K-12 educational options that best fit their children. Every child is unique, and all children learn differently. Some children might succeed at the neighborhood public school, while others might find a better fit in a public charter, public magnet, online, private, home, or nontraditional environment. That’s why educational choice is so important!

School choice options include all forms of education, from traditional public schools to public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online learning, homeschooling, and microschooling.

Every child deserves an effective, challenging, and motivating education. And, because each student has their own unique set of talents, interests, and challenges, having a variety of options in education is crucial. What works well for one child may not work well for another child! In short, school choice ensures that each student can find a learning environment that allows them to be inspired, successful, and happy.
