Ballroom Dancing in 5th Grade
During the week of September 30th, all 5th grade classes will be participating in an artist in residency program. This program is focused on ballroom dancing, and students will learn five different styles of ballroom dancing during their related arts classes.
We are excited to see our LSE Stars shine bright on the dance floor!
Econ Fair Update
Thanks to the generosity of Linton Springs’ students, our third-grade class was able to make donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and The Humane Society of Carroll County from last May’s Econ Fair profits. Thank you for your continued support of this fun and meaningful project. Stay tuned for more exciting products and services coming next May!
Fact Fluency
Fact Fluency, or the ability to quickly and accurately recall math facts, is a crucial aspect of a student's mathematical journey. Students are taught strategies to learn their facts rather than rote practice for memorization. Students are encouraged to practice their math facts at home, in hopes this knowledge will transition from short-term to long-term memory. Your child's classroom teacher will be providing facts in upcoming weeks. Please consider practicing facts at home with your child.
Green School Update
Thank you all so very much for supporting our collection of plastics! We collected way more plastic than we could have imagined. As a result, we earned a new Trex bench that has been available for student and community use on our playground since last spring.
As of September 30th, we have concluded collecting plastics. We hope to partner with the organization again in the future and hopefully earn another bench. We will share any updates through our monthly newsletter.
Thank you, again, for helping keep our school and community green!
Grade 4 Students to Help Oyster Population in Chesapeake Bay!
As part of our 4th grade Science curriculum and our discussion on ecosystems, fourth grade has been offered a wonderful opportunity to build oyster reef balls. Oyster reef balls are designed to rebuild the oyster population in our Chesapeake Bay. Oyster reefs provide habitat for hundreds of species and can protect cities from storm damage by reducing flooding and preventing erosion along shorelines. We will be working to build the reef balls with the Coastal Conservation Association.
On Wednesday, October 2nd and Thursday, October 3rd, all of our fourth graders will be outside building oyster reef balls.
Maryland's Agricultural Mobile Science Lab
We wish to extend our sincere gratitude to the LSE PTA for sponsoring the Mobile Science Lab. The PTA's sponsorship also an excellent example of how our fundraising efforts help support our students and the learning programs here at LSE!
The lab visited LSE the week of September 23rd. Our PreK students took a tour of the lab, students in Kinder - 2nd grade learned about different foods that started from seeds, and students in 3rd - 5th grade learned how to effectively wash their hands to stop the spread of germs!
These hands-on learning experiences are always an exciting highlight for our students.
News from the Art Room
If your student asks you for a trip to Michael’s or to rummage through craft supplies, don’t be alarmed. We are learning about mixed media and assemblage, and they are creating their own version of a minion. We have a craft buffet at school, but they may be asking for something special. Please encourage them to discuss their art at home. They have some wonderful ideas and are doing a lot of creative thinking.
News from the Cafeteria
Please Apply for Meal Benefits
Eligible households should still apply for meal benefits at www.myschoolapps.com. One application can be completed for the entire household when all members are listed. Parents may apply for benefits at any time during the school year. Eligibility for meal benefits may help families receive additional resources such as free internet service, field trip fee waivers, and P-EBT benefits so it is important to still apply if you meet eligibility guidelines.
Meal benefits from the 2023-2024 school year will expire on October 14, 2024.
Helping to Feed All in Carroll County
Families experiencing financial difficulty can apply at any time during the school year for free or reduced-price meals at www.myschoolapps.com. Despite this, many families who do not qualify have challenges making ends meet and charge meals at school. If you would like to donate to reduce this burden on families at your child’s school or any school with a need in Carroll County here is how you can make an unpaid meal charge donation to CCPS.
At the School Level:
Those wishing to send funds to reduce unpaid meal debt at a particular school location can send a check made out to the school with School Meal Debt Donation written on the memo line.
At the Central Office Level:
Those wishing to send funds to reduce unpaid meal debt can send a check made out to Carroll County Public Schools with School Meal Debt Donation written on the memo line.
Checks must be mailed to:

News from Health & PE
Linton Springs is participating in the annual “Project ACES” challenge from September 23rd – October 6th.
Students will receive a white journal with a calendar for keeping track of 60 minutes of physical activity each day. This amount meets the national physical activity guidelines for youth. Students should still turn in their forms with whatever amount they completed to get credit for doing the challenge.
Please encourage your child to mark the ACES journal each day with the type of activity and total active time. All types of physical activity count: at school, at home or recreational programs. Your child can count brisk walking, skating, bicycle riding, dancing, martial arts, Wii active games, sports, playing in the yard, or helping with yard work - anything active! Include Physical Education class and active recess. Small amounts can add up to 60 minutes.
At the completion of the 2-week challenge, sign the white Project ACES journal and return it to school. All students who complete the challenge will receive a certificate and a chance to win prizes. Schools can earn money toward their physical education and health programs.
For more information or if you would like to donate a student prize to your school, contact your school’s health or physical education teacher.
Have fun and get moving!
News from the Music Room
The music department is humming with activity! The chorus, band, and orchestra are packed with young musicians who are working on concert material and learning the basics of their musical craft. Thank you to all the parents who support our work and the work of our young musicians. A big shout out to the fourth and fifth grade team for their support and flexibility. Teamwork makes the dream work!
Portable Electronic Devices
We recognize and respect that whether or not a student has a personally owned portable electronic device is a family decision. Students are not required or expected to bring their own device to school. Students may bring their personally owned devices to schools, as long as they abide by these regulations. Student misuse of his or her device shall result in disciplinary action. Families are expected to work collaboratively with school staff to support the implementation of these regulations. Parents who need to make emergency contact with their child during the school day shall contact the school’s main office.
