Mr. Mauck's Musings
Congratulations to our JAG students traveling to Washington DC to represent the state at the annual JAG National Student Leadership Academy. The Indiana Workforce Development sent Mrs. Jamie Ruxer, Linzi VanMeter, and Sarahi Rodriguez for leadership training, visits with members of Congress, and participation in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. Among the highlights for the JAG Indiana students was a meeting with local officials and Governor-elect Mike Braun, who currently serves as U.S. Senator.
Reagan Book, Jack Britton, Wesley Eckman, Connor Fair, William Fallon, Nicole Fant, Melani Martinez, Ethan Robling, Brett Sollman, and Morgan Vonderheide will be competing in Indianapolis at the We the People State competition on December 11th. Good luck to all our students in their constitutional debate competition hosted by the Indiana Bar Foundation. Mrs. Kennedy participated in several Artificial Intelligence workshops and was able to bring a team including Dr. Kwon from IU to participate in her To Kill A Mockingbird lesson. Artificial Intelligence was used to improve the depth of knowledge on several themes in the book. Ms. Mundy is hosting a Choir concert featuring Mary Beth Donahue, Katie Stone, and recent JHS alumni. The concert begins at 7 and donations will be accepted at the door to support the choir trip to Carnegie Hall later this year. The JHS Band will have their Christmas Concert on Monday at 7 in the JHS Auditorium.
Tonight is the Snowball dance hosted by the JHS Student Council. Check out the pictures of the decorations. StuCo also raised a good haul of canned food for the local food bank. Thank you to all for their generosity. We do have a few other philanthropies going on. The Interact Club is sponsoring the Toys for Tots toy drive. Please bring in or drop off a new unwrapped toy for the donation bins. JHS is also participating in the Koatz4Kidz program. If you have a winter coat to donate please bring it to the front office. The Spanish Club is hosting a Spanish Club Movie Night December 9, in Room 216 JHS (Enter door 17) at 6:30pm. Join them for palomitas (popcorn), película (movie) y pastoras (poinsettias). Check out the new Library decorations for winter. Mrs. Burns does a wonderful job making our library and inviting environment for our students.
Congratulations to Jennifer Chacon and Mrs. Anna Grant our Student and Staff of the Week award winners. Dr. Nalley will have some fun next week with our School Safety Week. The students will be helping Santa and his elves by identifying school safety procedures. ICE/CTE Students: if your CTE class is meeting during a final you need to attend the CTE class and make arrangements with your JHS teacher for a time to make up the final. As a rule, if you are not at JHS during a normal school day schedule you do not need to attend that period during the finals schedule. If you are at JHS during the normal school day for a period you must attend all classes and review sessions for which you are scheduled. This would not include homerooms or lunch preceding a final where you are not normally scheduled to attend school.

A Message from Teen Wellness
Deer Heart Request
We will be dissecting hearts in Biomed again this year. I have preserved sheep hearts for the dissection, but in years past we have used deer hearts when available. (Which are much cooler!) I am reaching out to all of you hunters, and to any of your family members or friends who are hunters, I/we need you!
I plan to dissect hearts at the beginning of December. I am hoping there are enough of you who have children or family members interested in hunting and can get us enough deer hearts for each group. Ideally, we will need about 50 hearts for each group to be able to dissect.
If you are one of those lucky individuals to get a deer, if you could cut the heart out, and make sure you leave the top of the aorta attached (see picture below). Please rinse, then soak the heart in salt water overnight, rinse/soak again the next day, and put it in a Ziploc bag. Keep it cold, then have your child bring it to me at school, and I will store them until dissection day. If they want to dissect the heart they brought in, they need to put their name on the ziploc bag the heart is in. I appreciate any hearts you can donate, and so do the kids!

Miss Lilly welcomed the Little Wildcats to the library on Wednesday, reading “It’s Christmas, David” by David Shannon. Bernadine Dure won the drawing for the design a bookmark event in November. Canned Food Drive →
It is that time of year again for our Food Drive for our local Food Bank. We will again have a competition between homerooms. The last 3 years your generosity to this drive has been amazing. Our food drive will run until Dec 6. I am attaching what is needed most and how the points will work. You can donate money again for your homeroom and student council can buy cans and donate the funds directly to the
food bank. If every student and staff member just brought in 1 item we would donate over 1100 items. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Ferguson or any student council member.
Snowball Information →
The student council will host the Snowball Dance on Friday, Dec 6. The dance will be held in the cafeteria from 7:30 to 10:00. All JHS students are welcome and students may bring a date from another school. Non-JHS students must be at least high school age and not older than 20. Attire for the dance is semi-formal, which means NO JEANS. If you have any questions please email Mrs. Ferguson or any student council member.\
Toys for Tots Information →
Toys for Tots is an organization put on by the Marine Corps as a way to give kids from the age of 0-14 a gift for Christmas. Interact Club asks that you bring in any toys that are new and properly packaged for kids from the ages 0-14. We also ask that you take the toys you bring in to your homeroom and you keep them there till we pick them up. Every Friday club members will come to pick up the toys and tally up point for each homeroom. The homeroom with the most points will receive donuts or lollipops.
