Message from the Principal:
Hello Parkwood Panthers,
We had a wonderful week this week! Our students engaged in some fun spirit days, including Gratitude Day, where they wrote thank you cards to others, Popcorn Friday, and Vacation Day, where we pretended we were having some vacation fun. Check out the pictures below to see how we celebrated these days!

Upcoming Events
Short Week Reminder
Please remember that we have a short week next week! We will have a half day on Tuesday and then no school for the rest of the week for Thanksgiving break. Our staff will be engaged in Professional Development all afternoon. This means all students need to be picked up promptly, by 12:06 because staff will not be available in the afternoon to watch any students who are not picked up on time.
Field Trip and Camp Information
When we return from break, our 4th and 5th grade A/T students will have a field trip on Monday, December 2nd. Additionally, our 5th graders will be leaving for camp from December 3rd through the 6th. All 5th graders and 5th grade teachers will be gone these four days at camp.
School-Wide Read-In
We look forward to our fun **School-Wide Read-In** on **Monday, November 25th**. Feel free to let your child bring one of their favorite books from home for our read-in.

Popcorn Friday
Thank you to our Popcorn Volunteers!
Special Thank You to our Popcorn Volunteers and Donations!
🍿Our students love our Monthly Popcorn Fridays! It is something they will remember as they grow and is a fun event for all! 🍿
We wanted to send out a special thank you to those that help make this possible for all students to get popcorn. First, thank you to those parents who send in extra funds to cover students who might have forgotten their popcorn money. Also, thank you to Celebration Cinema Theater in Portage and KP Cinemas in downtown Kalamazoo who donated popcorn. We also have an anonymous donor who purchases 2 bags for us each month. Thank you so much from all of us for helping support this tradition for our students!
Tips and Routine Reminders
Back in the Routine
One thing I love over school breaks as a parent, is the flexibility to adjust our routine. We may stay up later as a family and sleep in. As we get back in the routine of school and work when we return to break, I wanted to send out some tips I found that have been helpful for our family.
"Why is sleep important?
Sleep plays a critical role in development in children; it allows for their bodies to recharge and retain the information they have learned throughout the day. In toddlers, napping allows for memory consolidation, motor skill development, and executive attention. Children and adolescents who regularly obtain an adequate amount of sleep have improved attention, behavior, memory, and learning, in addition to overall mental and physical health."
