Dear OMS Families,

We are hoping for warmer weather as we enter May! We also can't believe we are in the final stretch of the school year. Time flies when you're learning and growing.

Just a quick note about arrival: If you are dropping your children off in the morning in the Orchard church parking lot across the street, please direct your children to go to the crosswalk and cross with Ms. Vicky. This week we had several children running across the street from the Orchard Parking Lot onto the sidewalk by our parking lot. Thank you for your support with this!

Early Dismissal | Last Day of School

Summer will come just a few hours early this year. On Wednesday, June 7, 2023, students will be dismissed early.

Middle School Students will dismiss at 1:30 pm.
Early Childhood Students will dismiss at 2:15 pm.
Elementary School Students will dismiss at 2:30 pm.
CAP will begin at 2:30 pm.

Chewing Gum and Fidget Putty

We have noticed a significant increase in the amount of students chewing gum and bringing fidget putty to school. Students that do not have an accommodation to chew gum in the classroom will be asked to spit it out. We have also seen students chewing gum on the playground which is a choking hazard. Please help us to keep our students safe and our building clean by not sending these items to school. Thanks in advance!

Final High Five Friday of 2022-2023

Join us on Friday, May 12th for our final High-Five Friday. Students will be welcomed to school by members of the AHPD and a group of seniors from Hersey High School (we are not sure which group will be coming yet). Door 7 on the playground will be open should students not want to go through the tunnel.

Poet Michelle Schaub Built Excitement About Poetry In OMS Students!

Illinois poet, Michelle Schaub, taught us how to think of ideas to include in poetry writing. She shared some of her poetry and even invited some teachers and students to the stage to perform a poem. Thank you to the PTA for sponsoring her visit! Please visit the LMC website to see photos of Ms. Schaub’s visit.

Poem In Your Pocket Day

Students at OMS will celebrate Poem In Your Pocket Day on Tuesday, May 2. Each student has chosen a favorite poem or written one to share with others. They will have opportunities to share and trade their poems on that day. Please remind your child to wear clothing with pockets on this special day.
