THIS WEEK'S GLIMPSE ACROSS CAMPUS
Working with an instructor from the St. Charles Police Department, students in the First Responders seminar tried on alcohol impairment goggles to simulate the effects of alcohol consumption as they learned about the dangers of impaired driving. The goggles use special lenses to distort vision, slow reaction time, and reduce balance. When there was leftover dry ice from a demonstration in another seminar, Mr. Head seized the opportunity to allow students in his chemistry seminar to experiment with sublimation by exposing the dry ice to warmer temperatures. As they discussed the physical changes happening in the dry ice, they also explored some of the physical properties of carbon dioxide.
