February is Kindness Month
As you know, our three Clipper values are Be Safe, Be Kind, and Be Responsible. For the month of February, we will be focusing on being KIND and are excited to celebrate Kindness Month in February!!
Our teachers and counselors have collaborated to create a series of morning meeting videos and activities for all classrooms to participate in together. These activities will help students explore the many ways we can show kindness to one another.
In addition, Bresnahan School has set an ambitious goal—to complete 1,000 acts of kindness! As a school, we will work together to achieve this by displaying 1,000 paper hearts around the building. When staff and students observe an act of kindness, they will fill out a heart and place it on their classroom door. It will be truly inspiring to walk our hallways and see kindness in action throughout our school community!
Our goal is to use this initiative to foster a strong sense of community and encourage kindness in every student. We hope that every child will be “caught” being kind and contribute to our school-wide mission.
Global School Play Day
Attendance Update
We want to make you aware that if your child has missed five or more days of school, you will be receiving a letter regarding our attendance policy. The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has identified attendance as a statewide priority and requires schools to communicate with families about student absences—whether excused or unexcused. Currently, the state does not differentiate between the two when monitoring attendance.
As a school, we recognize the critical role regular attendance plays in your child's social, emotional, and academic development. At the same time, we understand that children need to be healthy in order to learn and thrive. There are times when illness or other circumstances make it necessary for a child to stay home. To support you in making informed decisions, our nursing team has previously shared guidelines on when to keep your child home from school.
Please know that we understand and respect the challenges that come with managing attendance, and we are here to support you in ensuring your child can be present as much as possible. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your partnership in your child’s education.

Volunteer Requirements
CORI Process
- All volunteers must have an up-to-date CORI on file with the Newburyport Elementary Schools.
- Bring the completed CORI form along with your driver's license to the Administrative Assistant at our school office.
- Please note CORI's are only valid for three years; after that you must reapply.
Fingerprinting
In keeping with Newburyport's continued focus on safety, volunteers/parents are required to be fingerprinted in two instances:
- If you are going on a day or overnight field trip and will have direct and unmonitored contact with children;
- If you are a lunchroom volunteer and will be bringing children out to the playground. Parents who volunteer in the classroom DO NOT need to be fingerprinted, if there will always be another adult present.
Massachusetts has contracted with MorphoTrust for fingerprinting. To book an appointment, visit the Massachusetts IdentoGO Website.
Please be aware there is a $35 fee for fingerprinting. Fingerprinting does not expire.
