The official digital newsletter of La Porte ISD
Greetings, La Porte ISD Family. Today is a great day to be a Bulldog!
Although spring does not officially arrive until March 19, it feels like it is already here. As I visited campuses this past week, I was overjoyed at all the fun happening on our playgrounds. I also witnessed some action at Bulldog Field during the annual David Anzaldua Memorial Tournament, where our Bulldogs took on teams from across greater Houston in near-perfect weather. Another of my favorite past times these days is to watch the construction going on at the site of Bulldog Stadium. Crews have been working from dawn until dusk — and sometimes into the night — to keep us on our 18-24 month schedule of completion.
There is a lot happening indoors too, as our teachers and students continue to prepare for STAAR, spring UIL events and community activities where we are always present, such as the Sylvan Beach Parade. This is a very busy time of year, and it is also a very fun time of year in La Porte ISD.
As always, I am appreciative of our staff, parents, board members for helping to ensure that our students enjoy the best possible experience as members of the La Porte ISD Family.
Superintendent Shout-outs
- A huge shout-out to Benjamin Tercero, who swam his way to 12th this weekend in the 100 meter breast stroke at the UIL State Swim & Dive Championships. Benjamin is among the most successful swimmers in the history of La Porte High School!
- Kudos to our Bulldogs Baseball Team for showing their stuff in the Anzaldua Tourney against some of the (other) top Houston area teams. Also, it was awesome to see our La Porte Elementary SAIL students call 'Play Ball' at the Friday afternoon game!
- Congratulations to our Bulldogs Basketball Team who advanced to the playoffs in the first season of head coach Anthony Stephens. We're very proud of all of you.
- Our junior high Academic UIL teams did very well at a meet this weekend in Santa Fe. Although I am never surprised, I am always amazed at the academic feats of our young scholars.
- Go Texan Day on Friday was fun ... and filling! I was a judge at two campus chili cook-offs, and all the entries were delicious! I also loved seeing staff and students decked out in their cowboy boots and hats!
- Finally, a mega shout-out goes to the La Porte Education Foundation and 100+ volunteers for organizing another wonderful La Porte Hoops Classic event this past Friday. More than 1,100 community members created fun memories as the home team took on the entertaining Harlem Wizards. Even better, this fundraising event will ensure that the Foundation continues to support our classrooms with innovative grants, as it has done for the past 30 years.
As we inch closer to Spring Break and the many activities that happen this time of year, I want to offer my encouragement to keep working hard, and my deep gratitude for your commitment to excellence in everything you do.
I hope you have a great week!
With La Porte pride,
Walter Jackson, Ed.D.

Model classroom: A professional development tool for LPISD’s newest teachers
We are excited to share the implementation of our new model classroom at Baker. This past week, during our monthly new teacher meeting, our newly hired educators had the opportunity to visit the newly established model classroom. This initiative aims to foster a collaborative environment where practical teaching ideas are shared among our teachers. The purpose of the model classroom is to serve as a hub for innovative teaching practices and to provide a space for our educators to exchange ideas and best practices. By showcasing various teaching methodologies and instructional resources, the model classroom aims to support professional growth and development among our teaching staff.
