Panther Update Family Edition #26
March 7, 2025

A Note from the Principal...
Hello Everyone,
Just a friendly reminder that classes begin at 9:15 AM. We understand that the car rider line can get long, especially on rainy or cold mornings, but please plan ahead to ensure your student arrives on time. Being in class and ready to learn at the start of the day sets them up for success. Thank you for your help!
Our school musical, High School Musical Jr., wouldn’t be possible without the incredible dedication of so many people! From parents who provided rides to practices, to those who helped with sets and behind-the-scenes work, to our amazing student performers—thank you! A special shoutout to Mrs. Cindy Johnson and our music department for their leadership and hard work in bringing this production to life.
Enjoy the well-deserved three-day weekend—rest up and recharge!
Janie Ulmer
Principal

Cheerleading Tryouts
Rekindle Hope
The Student Council has learned of a school in Altadena, California that sadly has burned to the ground; The Odyssey School. Staff and administrators are currently trying to figure out a plan for their students to attend school until they can rebuild. The Student Council has decided to partner with this worthy cause. We will be selling "Rekindling Hope" t-shirts for The Odyssey School during lunch for just $15. All profits from this fundraiser will go directly to The Odyssey School to help in their rebuilding efforts.
T-shirts will be delivered to homeroom and RISE teachers as they are filled. Sales will run now through March 15th.
Panther Coffee Cart
Thank you for your continued support. Our Coffee cart has been a huge success, we appreciate all of your donations. If you would like to donate items from the list below, please drop them off at the front office.
Library Update
March 12 - Author Visit Updates
- All 5th and 6th graders will have an opportunity to hear Varian Johnson speak in the afternoon on March 12. 7th and 8th graders who filled out the interest form for the writing workshop will have priority to attend that next Wednesday as well.
- We have a pre-order form available in the library, on Canvas, and on Parent Square if a student wants to pre-order any of Varian Johnson’s middle school geared books through us for him to sign during his visit. There is a limited quantity. More details on the form. Students can also bring in a book from home by Varian Johnson for him to sign during his visit. Books from home by the author need to be dropped off before March 12 to Mrs. Boudreau.
- Varian Johnson is also visiting FCI and Hamilton East Public Library while in the area. If you are interested in hearing him speak at HEPL, there is more information on HEPL’s site here.
Young Hoosier Book Program
Each year the Young Hoosier Book Award committee selects 20 books in different age ranges to nominate for our state book award. Each year any student (or adult) who reads some of the YHBA books that year can vote and help decide which book and author get the state book award that year! HIJH Library has several of these titles and provides programming and prizes throughout the year to support this statewide reading program. We’ve had several students participate in this program so far, and there is still time! Final log submissions will be due in the second half of April once the voting/celebration event date is set for HIJH.

A history of poor test taking can cause a negative attitude towards tests, which can also increase anxiety. Test anxiety is pretty common. Feeling nervous or anxious are normal reactions to stress.
