Dear West Wing Parents,
Thank you to all of our parents and students for a smooth adjustment to our new arrival and dismissal procedures. The past few days we have been supporting the flow of pedestrian traffic by training our students to stay on the sidewalk, avoid bunching up at the corner, and to walk bikes or scooters in the crosswalk and on the sidewalks. Our City of Peoria Traffic Engineers have adjusted the timing of the lights to allow traffic to flush out faster which has already made a big difference. As with any change it will take time for all of us to adjust.
Please review the items highlighted below and follow the procedures:
Walk Bikes and Scooters - Students biking or scootering to/from school will now walk their bike/scooter from the intersection of High Desert Dr. and West Wing Parkway to the bike rack and from the bike rack to the intersection.
Arrive on Time means that the Lollipop gate will now open at 3:25 pm. Please do not arrive before 3:25 pm M-TH or 1:55 pm on Fridays. Vehicles are not permitted to line up before 3:25. Please do not form a line of vehicles and move along to circle back around until the gate is open.
No Stopping, No Standing, No Parking laws are in effect in front of our school. Signs line High Desert Drive and are in effect on parts of Maya Drive. Our School Liaison Officers will be assisting with reminders to drivers and enforcement.
Vehicles must Stop at the Stop Bar – 84th Dr. and High Desert Dr. crosswalk has a stop bar. Please review ARS 28-855.
Please do not park on Maya Drive east of the school. If you want to walk your child to the gate, we ask that you now park at West Wing Park or Copper Hills Church and walk to the trail gate which is located on the west side of the campus.
If you have not used the Lollipop, please begin to as your child will get dropped off right on campus! We listened when parents shared that they do not use the Lollipop because their child will not be buying breakfast. We will now have a staff member present to monitor for students outside that are not eating breakfast. We do ask that you drop them between 8:25-8:40 am.
Please never park in the bus lane, especially during the school day. We have buses coming and going throughout the school day for preschool and field trips.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work together to prioritize the safety of our students and staff. If you have any questions or concerns, please review our arrival and dismissal page on our website. Please remember that your convenience never takes precedence over the safety of our students and staff. We must work together to ensure everyone arrives and departs school safely.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Shelly Schubert
Principal
We Need More Substitute Teachers
Looking for a flexible job? Becoming a Certified Substitute is the answer! West Wing is in need of additional substitute teachers to fill in when our teachers are out sick or out for professional development. Please consider signing up to help at your child's school. We love having parents as subs and we would love to have you join us this school year! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Shaunna Owsley, our school secretary. She is happy to answer any questions you may have or help you with the process.
We hope you consider this amazing opportunity to impact your child's school! Thank you!

Dear West Wing Parents,
If you feel your child has gifted traits, please register him/her for gifted testing to see if he/she is eligible for gifted services in DVUSD. Registration for the next round of gifted testing is now open. Parents/Guardians must be the ones to register their child. The registration link can be found on the Gifted Services website https://www.dvusd.org/Page/65819. Registration closes January 1, 2024. Testing will take place in February. If you have questions, please contact one of our gifted specialists Natasha Gieber (K-4) or Tiffani Morrison (5-8).
*If you are a parent of a second or fourth grade student, all second and fourth grade students will be tested for gifted. Students in those grade levels do NOT need to be registered for testing. Parents have the option to opt out of testing their child, if they wish. More information about that testing will be coming from the grade level teachers as those testing dates approach. *
