Star Of The Show, Sponsored by CHEF: Cedar Hill High School Highstepper Londen McQueen
Cedar Hill High School Highstepper Londen McQueen is the Cedar Hill ISD Star Of The Show, sponsored by the Cedar Hill ISD Education Foundation (CHEF).
McQueen is a four-year member of the Highsteppers and the daughter of Highsteppers coach Mila McQueen.
“The best part of being a Highstepper is the sisterhood and the culture,” McQueen said. “I have learned from Coach McQueen how to make the best out of anything and everything.”
In addition to the Highsteppers, McQueen is enrolled in CHHS’ Early College Academy (ECA) and is a member of National Honor Society.
“My future plans are to go to college and dance on a collegiate team,” McQueen said. “I’d like to major in Pre-Medicine and minor in Dance. I want to become a plastic surgeon.”
McQueen is inspired by her grandmother’s Sheila advice – “no matter what obstacles you go through in your life, do it with the biggest smile.”
Scholar Athlete (Sponsored by CHEF): CJ Castleberry
Cedar Hill High School senior running back CJ Castleberry excels on and off the field. After being honored as the Cedar Hill ISD Education Foundation (CHEF) Scholar Athlete of the Week, Castleberry rushed for a season-high 133 yards and a touchdown in a 28-14 Homecoming Win over Mesquite.
First Responder Appreciation (Sponsored by DAPPS): Cedar Hill ISD Police Officer Landry Minor
Landry Minor never planned on a career in law enforcement, but he couldn’t see himself doing anything else.
“It’s the best career move I ever made,” Minor said. “I love the brotherhood and being a public servant.”
Minor is the longest serving officer in the Cedar Hill ISD Police Department with 10 years of experience. He is the October 11 First Responder Appreciation honoree, sponsored by DAPPS.
“I’ve always liked working in Cedar Hill ISD, and I really started liking it when Chief (James) Hawthorne came here,” said Minor, who primarily serves Cedar Hill High School.
Minor was born in Lafayette, Louisiana and grew up in Atlanta. He served in the Army National Guard in Louisiana, while attending Louisiana State University.
Since the National Guard paid for his college, he fulfilled a four-year commitment to enlist in the US Army at Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia.
Minor was supposed to be an administrative clerk, but he “ended up in the cavalry.” Minor saw combat during his deployments, which included Panama, Somalia and Operation Desert Storm.
After his military service was completed, Minor returned to Atlanta when he a friend encouraged him to apply for the police academy.
Georgia is different than Texas, in that law enforcement agencies have to hire officers and then send them to the academy.
Sheriff’s Offices in Georgia are different in that deputies have to work in detention facilities. In Texas, detention officers are hired separately.
Minor was hired by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office in Atlanta, working in detention, patrol, burglary, warrants and courts.
It wasn’t until Minor moved to Texas that he began working in the school side of law enforcement – first with Dallas ISD and the Dallas College system, and for the past decade, with Cedar Hill ISD.
Minor is the proud parent of two sons who graduated from CHISD. One of his sons, Kyle, graduated from Collegiate and now works as a speech therapist. He also has a son, Korey, who graduated from CHHS and followed his path into public service, as a firefighter in Forney.
