AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING
We will be offering Academic Restart, our after school tutoring program, starting on Monday the 19th. Students do not need to sign up. It is a drop in program. There is no cost. It will be in Ms. Pack's room (406). Mr. Payne will announce when he dismisses the car riders to the drop off loop to go to "Academic Restart". Students need to come up with something to work on.
Rides need to be here by 5 or students can walk home.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Pack at Jennifer.pack@fayette.kyschools.us
LEXINGTON MOBILE MARKET
The Mobile Market is a rolling food oasis serving areas in Lexington without a grocery nearby. It is a place where anyone can purchase fresh produce and staples. This is a partnership with The Kroger Co. and God's Pantry. The Mobile Market is a 60-foot trailer. It houses a single-aisle grocery store stocked with a healthy selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, milk (dairy and nondairy options), chicken, beef, pork, deli meat, cheese, yogurt, and a limited amount of household products, such as toilet tissue, detergents, and other cleaning products. The mobile market operates on a cashless system - no cash will be accepted or stored within the Mobile Market. Customers will pay by debit card, credit card, or SNAP/EBT.
There are several stops added to the calendar in the SMS neighborhood!

SECOND-STEP (Social and Emotional Learning at SMS)
Every week your student receives a social-emotional learning lesson during their Academic Leadership class. The lessons will differ by grade level. Second Step is the program utilized and it helps students build social-emotional skills- like nurturing positive relationships, managing emotions, and meeting goals. This helps our students thrive in school and life.
What Lesson is SMS Doing This Week?: From August 14th-September 2nd, teachers will be building a community in their classroom through ice breakers, getting-to-know-you activities, and establishing relationships.
MRS. MORRISON'S MENTAL HEALTH MOMENT
Upcoming Suicide, Bullying, and Nicotine Prevention
KRS requires all 6th-12th grade students be educated twice a year about SUICIDE, BULLYING, and NICOTINE PREVENTION. On Wednesday September 4th, I will be showing a video through the AL classes that contains information about how to seek help if someone is feeling suicidal, what is bullying and how to report it at SMS, and the importance of staying nicotine free. If you would like your student to be exempt from this video we are offering an “opt out space” in the library. You will need to email me your request for “opt out” no later than 3 pm on September 3rd. Please call if you have any questions or concerns.
Thanks,
Valerie Morrison, LCSW
