Lafayette School

It is Hickory Tree Pizza Parlor Day on Friday, October 21st. Thank you in advance to all of our volunteers. At LAF, the students will order the number of pieces they want in the morning. The students can order one or two slices. We will not be accepting cash. The students will use their lunch accounts to pay for pizza.

Cost:

• One slice, veggie, and drink $3.75
• Two slices, veggie and drink $5.25

This year's Book Fair will run from Thursday, October 20 – Thursday, October 27th. The Book Fair closes at 3:00 p.m. each day. Come check out teacher wish lists, and make sure their classrooms are filled with a wide array of books from brand new and favorite authors alike!

IMPORTANT:

• This year, Scholastic will be collecting a state tax (NJ 6.625%) on each item purchased, which has changed from previous years where the items were rung up tax-free. We are including a tax chart for your convenience. Please see the chart.

• We highly suggest setting up an eWallet for your child through Lafayette’s Scholastic Home Page, which you can find on Scholastic.com. Please click here to set up your ewallet. All unused funds will transfer to your account after the Fair is over and will remain there as a “gift card” balance. It can be used on the Online Fair, Book Clubs, Teacher Store, or be rolled over to a new eWallet for the next Book Fair. It never expires.

Hi, my name is Liam Keller and I am the orchestra director at Lafayette and Chatham High School. This is my 4th year in the Chatham School District. I have been playing bass since 3rd grade but have expanded my instruments to now include 31 total instruments played. My greatest joy is watching students begin their lifelong love of music in Lafayette and watching them come back as advanced musicians in high school. Outside of school I enjoy golfing and planning my wedding!"

Dennis a music educator and administrator with a 38 - year career in the NJ Public Schools system. He is currently an instrumental music teacher, specializing in the Brass family, at Lafayette School. This is his 4th year at Lafayette! an adjunct professor at Montclair State University, mentoring clinical interns, coordinating their respective clinical placements, and teaching various courses for the Department of Teaching and Learning. He is also an adjunct professor at Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts and William Paterson University. Dennis is also a board member for the NJ Music Administrators Association, the NJ Music Education Association, a member of the NJ September Ready Task Force, NJ Steering Arts Committee and Director of the NJ State Solo and Ensemble Festival. As a performer, Dennis is a freelance low brass musician, specializing in bass trombone, and performs with many ensembles in the NY/NJ metropolitan area. Dennis Argul has been active in the marching arts activity as a performer, arranger, composer, clinician, and designer. For the last three decades, Dennis has also been an adjudicator for many organizations and genres, most recently enjoying his experiences as a judge with Drum Corps International.

Friendly Reminder to please pay your Required PTO Dues ($20 per student) the dues are used to fund school wide and classroom events ( such as Halloween) as well as cover the PTO’s operating costs. There will be a parade which will start at 2:00 p.m. More information about the parade route will be forthcoming.

Costume Guidelines:

• Students should come to school in their costumes

• All accessories should be left at home due to the fact that many of these items are often left behind.
  

• Costumes cannot promote the use of drugs, alcohol, or weapons of any kind.

• No pretend “prop” weapons such as water pistols, knives, or swords.

• Costumes may not be offensive or inappropriate in any way.

• Students choosing to wear costumes must be able to sit at their desk without distracting others and participate fully in all class activities.

Students will bring their own snacks to the party. As with any snack that is being sent to school, the 'special snack' must be a snack that is permitted in the classroom/school safe snack, ie, peanut/tree nut free.

Thank you to the PTO for supplying the Halloween crafts, games, and prizes. All items will be delivered to the classrooms for use during the classroom Halloween party.
