In LISD, we are preparing the dreamers to be doers by developing engaged, collaborative learners who are equipped for success.

Every spring the Life Skills students participate in the LISD Job Olympics. The students compete against the other high school campuses in events such as rolling silverware, setting and bussing tables, filling salt shakers, etc. Members from the community volunteer time to judge the various events. Peers from theatre, PALS, and cheer attend to support and encourage the students as they compete. All of the students work incredibly hard in preparation for this special day. The students of TCHS held nothing back, which led to multiple medals. However, the biggest celebration came as the students won FIRST place overall! The first group of Collegiate Academy seniors applied for graduation with Collin College. Approximately 30 students will receive an Associate's degree before they graduate from high school.

Kim Mosely, Kevin Swan, Richard Bleemel, Syndey Boyar and I collaborated to create a lesson where world history students would experience the first breakthroughs during the Scientific Revolution through various stations such as astronomy, chemistry, and the human body. We used a variety of readings, hands-on experiments, and VR experiences with Oculus Goggles to engage the students in meaningful learning. For example, students tested the strength of various tissues in order to discover the scientific method and the impacts of the scientific method on challenging traditional beliefs in science. At another station, students read a brief introduction to modern astronomy and Kepler, and then put on Oculus Goggles to explore our solar system up close!

Congratulations TCHS Choir Students on their fantastic performances this past Saturday at our LISD Solo and Ensemble Competition at Hebron High School. The following 11 JROTC Cougar Battalion Cadets that competed on Friday, February 14, 2020, in the “Level II - On-Line Army JROTC Leadership Academic Bowl. For the first time in school history, our very own TCHS JROTC qualified to advance to the 2020 Army JROTC Academic Bowl Championship! The competition began with 1,490 teams competing in Level I and will conclude in June 2020 at the Championship (JLAB) in Washington, DC. The winner of the Army Academic Championship will face the winners from the Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps in the Joint Service Academic Championship.

The advancing teams (TCHS JROTC) going to JLAB were announced, February 25 at 1:00 pm Eastern Standard Time Livestream on the YouTube channel!

The following 17 JROTC Cougar Battalion Cadets that competed on Saturday, February 29, 2020, in their “Final Drill Meet Competition at the Mansfield Tigers Invitational Drill Meet in Mansfield, TX.” Out of 15 Schools and approximately 300 competitors, our TCHS JROTC Female Color Guard, Unarmed Drill, Male and Female PT, Academics, and Knock-Out Drill Competition Teams, won the “Three (3) Top Individual Medals and 6 Trophies, to include, the Overall 1st Place Divisional Championship Trophy. Our 17 cadets beat out all of the DFW Metroplex Schools and out-of-state competitors that were in attendance in their Division. Our cadets competed against the Air Force, Navy, Marines, and other Army JROTC programs.

Cougar Golf had a great day on February 12 at Lake Park Golf Course taking 1st place team and 2nd place team at the Flower Mound Jaguar Heartbreaker. Two TCHS Collegiate Academy students were the individual tournament champions for the girls and boys.

Welcome Night for the Collegiate Academy class of 2024 was our biggest yet! With close to 600 people attending the evening, our incoming Collegiate families were able to hear from LISD, Collin and TCHS administration as well as current Collegiate Academy students. After the program, students were able to enjoy a cookies and punch reception, school tours, electives fair and get some great SWAG from Collegiate Academy and Collin College.

On January 25, 2020, our UIL Academic Teams competed in the 2020 Flower Mound eqUILibrium Academic Meet. The Current Events Team took 1st Place Team. Individual Medals were awarded to John Leondike (3rd Place), Kaitlyn Said (5th Place), Anthony Rodriguez (6th Place). Our district meets will be held on March 26th and 28th at Highland Park High School. TCCMUN hosted the third annual MUN competition at TCHS. Eleven DFW schools attended with over 106 delegates competing for our most successful conference yet. Our guest speaker, Laura Barnett from Axxess Healthcare, spoke on the importance of global cooperation and honoring all cultures.

The 2020 track season has kicked off to a great start. Even though this track team is very young with experience. These athletes continue to impressed the coaches with all of their hard work and dedication. Developing this competitive nature and tenacity, will benefit the track athletes at district (April 2 & 3 at Little Elm Stadium). The coaching staff and track athletes are very thankful with all the community and cougar nation support.

Another competition, another record for TCHS Academic Decathlon! Our students competed at the State Competition on March 6 & March 8 in San Antonio. The Topcats competed at their first competition of the season on March 7. Their day ended in huge success for the program walking away with 18 awards! The Topcats placed top ranks in multiple categories, received Champions Circle Honor for Officers and Team, A Specialty Applause Award, Best of the Best Officer Award, and Solo Finalist Mia Whisonant! In LISD, we believe education is a shared responsibility between our district and the communities we serve.

Our AP art students participated in a project to help design a piano at the Grandscape. They created the design and presented it to the Grandscape board members on January 31.

Twenty one student artworks from TCHS were selected to be in the LISD district art show at the MCL Grand Theater in Lewisville that was on display from February the 14-22. One student received 3rd place in ceramics and two students received the Principals choice award.

33 art students also participated in the UIL VASE art competition at Timbercreek HS on February 22. 29 received the highest rating of a 4 and 4 students received the second highest rating of a 3. One student is an alternate to advance to the State art competition for VASE in April.

In LISD, when we say we want to be good stewards of our resources, we aren't just talking about taxpayer dollars.

After studying watersheds and the World Water Crisis, students created a Public Service Announcement (PSA) to show what they learned. Some students worked on learning Keynote after I discussed our Professional Learning - Apple Keynote session. Some products turned out really well!
