Message from Mr. Souza
Dear MHS Families,
It's been an incredible Homecoming week with theme days, the hallway decorating competition, Girls Flag Football, an energetic assembly, the parade ... and there's still more to come!
Special thanks to local restaurants, Area Coffee, Luke's of Mundelein, Hitz Pizza, Chicago Ramen, and Taco Burrito Express, who helped Student Leadership with their fundraising efforts this week.
Tonight is the Homecoming football game against Libertyville. Gates open at 6:00pm and the game starts at 7:00pm. We hope to see you there! Purchase your tickets at GoFan. Please know that MHS strives to provide staff, students, and guests with a welcoming and safe environment. For this reason, we have instituted a new game attendance policy. Going forward, all middle school aged children or younger must be accompanied by a supervising adult to attend and there will be a limit of five children per supervising adult.
Saturday evening is our Homecoming dance. Students, please remember to bring your current year student ID and leave your backpacks at home. A small purse is ok. All items are subject to being checked prior to entry.
Next week we have Parent Teacher Conferences! If you have not yet had an opportunity to schedule your Parent Teacher Conference, now is the time. The scheduler will close at 4:00pm on September 30th. The first day of conferences, October 2nd, will be an early release day for students.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Go Mustangs!

A Message from Our Associate Principal of Student Life
The Wellness Center has partnered with Omni’s “PreVenture” program. PreVenture is a mental health program that screens students for personality related risk factors that may indicate increased risk for future participation in high-risk behaviors, including using drugs and alcohol. This does not evaluate for current high-risk behaviors, rather this is a preventative program to support the development of coping skills and self regulation strategies.
Omni utilizes the Substance Use Risk Profile Scale (SURPS) to screen students for eligibility. To learn more about PreVenture, click below.
You will receive details about an informational parent night in a future email. This screener allows us to identify our students at highest risk for these behaviors. Omni then assists us in facilitating student groups and parent education for identified students.
The Wellness Center will survey all 9th graders during their Freshman Advisory Mundelein (FAM) classes on Monday September 30th.
If you have any questions and/or do NOT want your child to participate in the PreVenture program, please reply to this email prior to Monday, September 30th. If we do not hear from you, we will assume your child has permission to participate in this program.
For questions specific to Mundelein High School’s facilitation of the workshops, you can contact Ms. Libert at slibert@d120.org or via phone at (847) 949-2200 x1265.

Upcoming Events
September 15 - October 15 - Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year from September 15 to October 15. It began as a week-long celebration in 1968 under President Johnson and was expanded to a month by President Reagan 20 years later in 1988. The month-long celebration provides more time to properly recognize the significant contributions Hispanic/Latino Americans have made in the United States.
Latinas and Latinos have always held significant roles throughout our country’s history, dating all the way back to the American Revolution. Hispanic Heritage Month is important because it provides an opportunity to celebrate the integral part the Hispanic/Latino community has had in growing and strengthening our democracy.

Coaches Corner - Boys Cross Country

The F/S killed it again Saturday at the Warren Invite. Despite missing 2 of their 3 top runners, they took 3rd in a really good field of over 20 teams, only 12 points out of 1st! Erick Cordova was our top finisher, taking 3rd out of over 300 runners. Mason McMurray was close behind in 8th place. Brandon Newell took 22nd, Advik Sharma was 48th, and Logan Vale was 62nd to close out the scoring. Nearly all our runners in that race had PRs.
In the Varsity race, we took 16th out of 23 teams despite being short-handed. Elijah Mendoza took 5th overall in sweltering heat. Andrew Weaver was 86th, Nathan McCreight was 91st in his first full race back from injury, Logan Ramirez was 99th, and James Glaskin-Clay was 115th to close out the scoring.

On Saturday at the Warren Invite, we placed 11th out of 19 teams at the Varsity level & 6th out of 16 teams for JV! We also had 7 Lifetime PRs, 2 Season PRs, and 1 Course PR!
Tuesday night was doubly special. First, we competed in our last quad of the season, beating both Waukegan and Stevenson and finishing with a Conference Dual Meet Record of 5-2. The girls also ran great races and we saw 10 lifetime PRs and 2 Season PRs. We also got to honor and celebrate our 4 seniors. Thank you to Vivi, Alex, Hannah, and April for your leadership! We will miss you next year!
Our last 2 Runners of the Week include Senior Hannah Roberts and Freshman Jacqueline Hernandez.
While this is Hannah’s first season in XC, she’s made incredible progress and has quickly become one of our top Varsity runners! She is a tough competitor who always gives her full effort in everything, including both her runs and maintaining healthy habits! Proud of you, Hannah!
Jacqueline has been one of the hardest-working runners all season and has dropped 6 minutes since the beginning of the season! She is a good teammate, asks thoughtful questions, and challenges herself to be the best runner she can be! Proud of you, Jacqueline!

We are now in the whirlwind part of the Girls Volleyball season facing some heavy hitters in Libertyville, Warren, and Vernon Hills within a week’s time. Our underlevels are also taking on Invitationals and Quads this weekend.
Be sure to mark your calendars for our Cancer Awareness Night on Wednesday, October 23 at our home match against Lake Forest. There will be a 50/50 raffle and themed baskets to win. Reminders
Attendance
Regular school attendance is required and necessary to develop the academic and intrapersonal skills needed for success. Students are expected to attend each class and be on time. Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance. If your student is going to be absent, leave early or arrive late, please submit the attendance via the monitor application within Power School in lieu of calling the attendance line and leaving a voicemail.
Please log on to the Power School parent portal at the MHS website https://www.d120.org/ to record your student’s attendance.

Guardians will be receiving an email with your parent Power School log in instructions if needed.
If you need further support please call 847-949-2200.

Would you like to know when your student’s bus is going to be late? For Mundelein bus routes, Lakeside Transportation is using the Bus Bulletin notification system to notify parents and students when there are bus delays and schedule changes.
For more information, or to sign-up and start receiving notifications, please visit Bus Bulletin (Find Mundelein Area Schools when prompted for a district) *Note - This is managed by Lakeside Bus Company and not MHS.

Although we take great pride in a dress code that encourages self-expression, we do want to remind students of our student dress code policy as found in our student handbook.
Clothing must cover all undergarments (waistbands and straps excluded).
Fabric covering all private parts must not be seen through.
Clothing that depicts, advertises or advocates the use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana or other controlled substances is prohibited.
Clothing that depicts pornography, nudity or sexual acts is prohibited.
Lockers
