SMHS STUDENTS VISIT THE FINNISH AMERICAN SOCIETY
TO DISCUSS THEIR UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABILITY PROJECT
SMHS students: BEN DIGIACOMO, LEXI EASTMAN, NAVYA JUNKINS, EMMA MOYNIHAN and BRYCE SAWYER did a truly outstanding job presenting overviews of their U.N. sustainability project goals to members of the FINNISH AMERICAN SOCIETY on Saturday, May 18. The project has partnered SMHS students with students in Finland to collaborate on global sustainability solutions to conserve natural resources and improve equitable education and economic access for all. Finnish students will be visiting SMHS next fall and SMHS students will travel to Finland in April 2025.
Finnish American Society members were very impressed with our students' eloquence, research, and commitment to the project. There was also discussion regarding the similarities and differences between the U.S. and Finnish education systems, economics, gender equality, women's rights, recycling and conservation ethics. Members also prepared some amazing Finnish desserts which were enjoyed by all!
