March 2025
Student of the Month for Honesty
Honesty is being truthful in what you say and do. We have an amazing group of students here at Sewell. Below are students nominated by their teacher, for Student of the Month for Honesty.
Ms. Barraza: Zai'Kai displays honesty consistently by taking responsibility to tell the truth, without any hesitation. He has no problem admitting to his mistakes and consistently practices the classroom rule.... "It's okay to make mistakes, as long as you learn from them." He is also a great role model for his classmates in demonstrating the understanding of right from wrong. We're very proud of you, Zai'kai for your sincere honesty and understanding that the truth is important!
Ms. Hanson: Zaylee always tells the truth, even when it's tough. She shows honesty by admitting when she makes a mistake and always tries her best to do what's right.
Mrs. Alvarado-Wells: Congratulations Isabela on earning this month's Character Strong award for honesty. You have earned this award for always showing the goodness inside of you by being truthful in your words and actions. Your honesty shines brightly, inspiring others to always do the right thing. Keep being the wonderful, truthful person you are! You make the world a better place!
Ms. Dolan: Elianna sets an example of honesty in her interactions with others with what she says and what she does. She works at doing what is right without being asked. She will give her opinion in a way that is truthful and kind. When she sees a problem or makes a mistake, she discusses it calmly and works to make things better. Her kind honesty makes our class a brighter place.
Ms. Ioannou: Olympia shows honesty every day by telling the truth, even when it’s hard. She takes responsibility for her actions, returns things that aren’t hers, and plays fairly with friends. Whether admitting a mistake or speaking up when something isn’t right, Olympia proves that honesty makes our classroom--and our world-- a better place. Keep being a great role model!
Ms. Mendoza: I am recognizing Alannah for the character trait of honesty. I trust what she tells me is true because she shows me every day with her actions that she has integrity. Thank you for your honesty, Alannah.
Ms. Petrino: Sienna is getting this award for Honesty. She can always be counted on to tell the truth, even when it might be hard to do. I know when she tells me something that I can trust what she is saying. It takes a lot of courage and integrity to always be honest, keep up the good work!
Ms. Hook: Mayleen is a trustful and sincere student in her interactions with teachers and others. She completes assignments on time, reports work accurately and takes accountabilities for all of her actions. She holds the virtue of trusting friendships, and she has proven herself to be reliable in many areas. Way to go Mayleen!
Ms. Ryan: Patrick has always been a model student. He is earning this character strong recognition for honesty. Patrick is a student who displays integrity, reliability, and a strong sense of right and wrong. I always catch Patrick doing what’s right, even when he thinks no one is looking. Additionally, I can always count on Patrick to do his class job without having to be reminded. He is always on top of it. Lastly, Patrick has good judgement and always makes the best decisions for himself on a daily basis.
State Testing Information
With State Testing set to begin just after our spring break, now is the time to be thinking about what to do to help prepare your child(ren) for the testing.
1. Please plan for attendance. These tests are very important to demonstrate the great progress your child(ren) have accomplished through this school year. Students that are here on testing dates will usually get to test in the classroom with their own teacher. This can make a huge difference on how your child feels about the testing. Students who are ill will need to stay home, but for other scheduled absences, please try to reschedule them to dates that are not allocated as testing dates.
2. Please plan for good rest the night before a day of testing. A good night's sleep can help a student to focus better and be able to concentrate on the test better.
3. Please plan for a healthy meal and snacks the evening before and a healthy breakfast the morning of testing. Healthy food will help with good continuous energy for testing. Taking advantage of breakfast at school is a great option. Please plan to arrive early enough for your child to have plenty of time to eat.
4. Be positive. Don't put a lot of extra stress on your child during these testing days. Many students put a lot of pressure on themselves anyways so let's try and not add to the pressure. Staying positive and encouraging them to read each question and consider each answer is a great way to help your child. Make sure your child knows that you believe in them and in their success.
