2nd-6th Grade Interim Assessments
Dear eLearning Families with Students in Grades 2-6,
Next week, our students will be participating in two district interim assessments. One will assess English/Language Arts, and the other will assess Mathematics. Students participated in these assessments at the same time last year when they were in our buildings, and they are administered quarterly throughout the year. These assessments help us measure student growth and achievement within the district, across all schools.
With that said, we want to be very clear on the kind of assessments these are. These are not considered “high stakes” assessments. In other words, they do not have impact on student grades, nor are they considered to be the only measure of your student’s abilities as a learner. These are simply assessments that help guide the district and teachers with decisions regarding student learning.
As a parent/guardian, you can help in a few ways to keep stress levels low for both you and our students. Here are a few tips to help you and your student during the interim assessments:
Students have one hour to complete each test. It’s okay if they don’t finish, so don’t rush them!
There may be questions where your student doesn’t know the answer or how to solve the problem. That’s okay! They can skip the question.
Don’t push your student to frustration with the questions. If they are having a tough time, they can skip the question and move on.
Please don’t guide your students to the answers, nor should you give them the answers. If they are struggling, let them know it’s okay to move on from the question.
Need to take a break? Go for it! Allowing your student a minute or two to get up and move around is absolutely okay.
If you are finding the assessment is becoming a battle, have your student stop. He/she can go back to it if he/she can.

Original Works Art Fundraiser
Dear Parents,
We are going to be participating in the Original Works Art Fundraiser this year! This program offers an opportunity for you to purchase items with your student’s artwork printed on it. They even have a face mask! Funds that we raise will be used to purchase other special art supplies and perhaps a visit from a guest artist. Due to our learning situation this year, we won’t be able to run the Original Works Program* in the same set up that you may be used to doing in the past.
BUT WE HAVE GREAT NEWS FOR YOU!
We have set up a program with Original Works called Online at Home.
Students will be creating a piece of art during their weekly Art Room Zoom meetings.
Parents can place orders online during a two week period that Original Works has set up for us.
Ordering during this window will ensure prompt turnaround of the orders so that products arrive in plenty of time for the holidays.
Shipping will be added at checkout and the products will ship directly to your homes.
The students will be given more information through the Art Room Zoom and Google Art Classroom. Stay tuned for more information to come. If you would like to mark your calendar now, our ordering timeframe is:
November 2 to November 16
Placing orders during this time frame will assure your order arrives in plenty of time for the holidays.
We hope you will participate in this art-filled program! Thank you for all that you are doing to ensure that your students have a meaningful and inspiring year.
Sincerely,
Kate Dulaney

Edgenuity Updates
Understanding Edgenuity's Progress Report and Grading
Dear eLearning Families,
In previous years you have been able to check your student's in-progress grade(s) in Infinite Campus. This year, students in-progress grades will be checked in Edgenuity. The only grade that will be posted in Infinite Campus will be students' final semester grades. The Edgenuity progress report is your best resource for information regarding how your student is progressing and performing in their Edgenuity course.
As you may have already noticed, you should now be receiving progress reports for your students Edgenuity progress each week! If you are not receiving these progress reports, please let us know by emailing Mr. Rode. Additionally, if you would prefer to receive those daily, let us know that as well.
As you begin to look at progress reports and student grades within the Edgenuity system, it is important that teachers, parents, and students understand how grades and progress are defined. Please review the information below. We understand that this can be confusing, you can click here to see a video that explains the Edgenuity progress reports. If you have any additional questions or concerns about Edgenuity progress reports and grading, please contact the eLearning Dean of Students Thomas Rode at thomas_rode@engschools.net or 720-679-1782.
