A Message from Admin
Jaguar Families,
Happy May, Jaguar Families!
It is crazy to think we have a month and a half left of the school year! We have so much to do, and with your help, your Jaguars will continue to rise to the challenge.
As you know, state testing is right around the corner. We need to be sure our Jaguars come to school ready to do their best by showing our Learning Quality of Perseverance and our May Learner Quality by staying Motivated and overcoming challenges that might get in their way.
For those of you with 3rd-5th grade students, they need to be reassured that all we ask is they do their best, and the best way to do that is to continue to focus and work hard each day as their teacher continues to set them up for success.
We look forward to the week ahead, full of learning and hard work!

SBA Testing
The Jaguar staff is looking forward to seeing our 3rd-5th grade Jaguars persevere through our Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) which is just around the corner. SBA is an extremely important state test that helps us understand where your students are in their learning for this school year.

Second Step Lessons at Spanaway Elementary
In Second Step this week...When we are calm, we do things that make the problem smaller like apologizing and thinking through the problem. This week in Second Step our school is learning about how thinking about a problem and considering other's point of view will help us pick a solution that shows kindness, and friendship.

YES! Our Jaguars have homework!!!!!
Reading: Each night your child should be reading at least 20 minutes. If you need books for reading at home, contact your child's teacher.
Math: Have your child practice basic math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) for their grade-level each night. Students can log into Reflex Math and get their "green light".

NO CELL PHONES OUT AND ON DURING THE SCHOOL DAY.
We understand that it is important for parents to be able to reach their children for a variety of reasons. We can all agree that your child's safety, as well as learning, is a top priority.
At Spanaway, we expect all students to have cellphones turned off and put in their backpacks between school hours (8:45 AM-3:15 PM).
Should you need to reach your child for any reason during these hours, please contact the front office (253-800-5300) or your child's classroom teacher.

Giving Students a Voice at SE
Using Restorative Practices provides an opportunity for our students to hear the impact their words and/or actions may have had on someone else in our school community. It also allows them to repair the "harm" so relationships can be strengthened.
As a school community, we encourage families to use this language at home when conflict arises. Many of our staff have shared the positive impact of this process in their own lives!

This week we chat with students about how their high schools have prepared them for life after they cross the graduation stage.
