It is important to talk about the societal and peer pressures that are out there, and this presentation will give parents information to talk to their kids about the risks, challenges, and how to help kids navigate these issues.
The presentation will be from Jack Adkins, also known as AADAC Jack! The presentation information is below:

Inclement Weather
With typical Alberta weather we never know what we will get. Some days will be wet and some days will be cold. What matters is that we all dress appropriately for outdoor activities no matter the weather.
Please ensure your child(ren) have an extra set of clothes in their school bag.
Tip: Label extra clothing to leave at school such as socks, underwear, pants and shirt.
*Please also ensure your child has appropriate indoor footwear in the event of an unplanned evacuation.
Watch for Thin Ice
Remember, be aware of thin ice this time of year. Depending on changing temperatures, ice can form and melt to varying degrees on outdoor bodies of water. Try to remind your child about the dangers of thin ice, obey all posted signs, take proper care and remain a safe distance from the ice.
For more information about ice safety, visit the Canadian Red Cross.
Did you know?
The colour of ice may be an indication of its strength. Clear blue ice is the strongest. White opaque is half as strong as blue ice. And, grey ice is unsafe—greyness indicates the presence of water.

Visiting our School
In our continuing efforts to keep the school a safe place and to reduce the risk of having unauthorized individuals in the school, we have installed a Video Intercom System (VIS) at our front main doors. The system is mounted on the wall to the left side of our front doors. our front doors will remain locked until a staff member can verify the intent and identify the individual.
As a reminder, all parents, visitors and contractors are to report to the office to be checked in to the building using our new check in system. All visitors are to use the front main doors only, and must sign out at the office before leaving the building. If you need to speak with a teacher or admin please call the office to set up a meeting time. Thank you for your cooperation.
School attendance is crucial for students to achieve academic success and personal development. Regular attendance ensures that students have the opportunity to fully engage with the curriculum, participate in classroom discussions, and build strong relationships with teachers and peers. Consistent attendance also helps students develop vital time-management and discipline skills, setting a foundation for future success in the workplace. Additionally, frequent absences can result in gaps in learning and missed opportunities for crucial educational experiences. By attending school regularly, students are able to maximize their learning potential and establish habits that will serve them well throughout their lives.
Reset Room - CBC Radio Interview
In our school, we have a space called the Reset Room where students can self-refer for mental health support. This room is staffed by a certified teacher or educational assistant that will help the student manage stress levels, support academics, and direct the student back to class when they are in a space where they are ready and able to learn. Our EIPS mental health advisor, Mardi Hardt, recently did an interview on CBC radio discussing this important health initiative in our school division.

Sometimes we all just need a break. And that's true for students in junior high, too. A pilot project at junior high schools in the Elk Island public division have introduced "reset rooms". Mardi Hardt is the mental health adviser for Elk Island Public Schools.

School Fees Feedback Survey
As a part of our annual school fee parent consultation process, we would appreciate any feedback you are willing to provide regarding this year’s school fees: 23-24 School Fees Feedback Survey
At our School Council meeting in January, we were able to receive feedback from parents who were in attendance. For those of you who were unable to join us, completing the survey would be a great way to get involved in the consultation process. At our next Parent Action Society meeting on March 12, we will present out proposed fees for the 2024-2025 school year before submitting them for approval.
Information about our current fees along with the survey can also be found on the Fees page on the Lakeland Ridge website.
