SEMS Weekly Newsletter
October 13th, 2024
Dear San Elijo Middle School Families,
It was our pleasure to welcome you to our Showcase Open House to celebrate the 20th anniversary of SEMS last week. Our goal was threefold: to continue to build community with our parent partners and families, to celebrate the journey our school has been on, and to look forward to the future.
We had our previous administrators in attendance including founding Principal Hall and long time Principal DeBora. These two laid the foundation for the vibrant, supportive environment we enjoy today. We also had Sarah Ahmad, our dedicated Board Member whose commitment not only to our own school but the larger San Marcos community is much appreciated.
We find our school embarking on a new path forward that embodies our new Middle School Experience that is grounded in community and connection, is personalized and flexible, is co-created through shared power, and is skills driven and relevant. As I walked around last Thursday, I could see these pillars everywhere! Our students shined in their leadership skills, their communication skills, and confidence. A special thank you to our Art, Spanish, Innovation, Tech, Career Lab, Entrepreneurship, 7th grade Math, ASB, Yearbook, and our Music students. We are so proud of each of them!

Speaking of Halloween.....
We love Halloween at SEMS!
Students and staff may wear Halloween costumes on Tuesday, October 31st, but they must adhere to the guidelines listed below:
No look-a-like weapons of any kind.
No masks of any kind.
No full face paint.
No inflatable or other costumes that will impede the learning of others.
Costumes must follow the SMUSD dress code guidelines.
Please use good judgment and creativity so that everyone can have fun. If you have any questions, please email or reach out to one of the Assistant Principals. Our goal is for everyone to enjoy the day, but please remember that this is a school day and we must follow guidelines.
If students do not follow the Halloween guidelines, parents will be called to bring another item of clothing for their child to wear.
