Happy Winter? Spring?!!...Arizona Weather!
Speaking of weather... our study of weather will culminate with DISCOVERY at the AZ Science Center on February 19th! Second Graders have been busy with a "whirlwind" of weather studies. If we have not received your child's permission slip, please be timely in returning the permission this week. We are unable to take students off school campus without permission. Please know your child's safety is always our priority! *If the $5.00 fee creates an unintentional financial stress- please let your child's Teacher know- we would be happy to sponsor your child! *Remember you can order a sack lunch for your child to take to the AZ Science Center 😊
Conference GOALS!
Spring Conferences are a wonderful time to "refresh" the academic and behavior goals. We are on the stretch for Spring Break, but by no means are we "done" for the school year. With that being said, Second Graders need our combined support to put their "best foot forward." This is the time of year we are bridging the growth from August and pushing for the finish... we are NOT done! However, we can make success happen TOGETHER!!
Thank YOU in advance for meeting with our TEAM
Class T-Shirts
Class shirts: We had an amazing sea of color at our APEX Fun-run event... Mills: Green, Livingston: Royal Blue, Trif: Teal Blue! No class shirt? Please have your child wear the similar color on our field trip 2/19. We value the color coordination to help with visibility and safety while off campus. It is much easier to "spot" our students in a crowd. 🙂 *New to our school- interested in ordering a class shirt? Please reach out to your child's Teacher. Fantastic Frogs-Mills, Trojan Warriors-Livingston, Sailors-Trif

Numbers Within 1000: Place Value, Addition, Subtraction,-comparing numbers
*The following standards are our focus objectives for this new Unit. This is definitely another essential Math Unit for 2nd Grade! We are bridging our understanding of numbers and increasing the rigor of addition and subtraction of larger numbers. These lessons will focus heavily on place value, grouping/regrouping of numbers:
2.OA.A.1
Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
2.NBT.A.1
Understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones; e.g. 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 ones.
2.NBT.A.3
Read and write numbers to 1000 using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form.
2.NBT.A.4
Compare 2 three-digit numbers based on meanings of the hundreds, tens, and ones digits, using symbols: >, =, and < to record the results of the comparisons.
2.NBT.B.5
Fluently add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.
2.NBT.B.6
Add up to four two-digit numbers using strategies based on place value and properties of operations.
2.NBT.B.7
Add and subtract within 1000- drawing models, using place value charts.
2.NBT.B.8
Mentally add 10 or 100 to a given number 100-900. Mentally subtract 10 or 100 from a given number 100-900.
2.NBT.B.9
Explain why addition and subtraction strategies work, using place value and the properties of operations.
