District Staff News
January 14, 2019
Welcome to 2019! I hope you had a relaxing winter break and are getting back into the swing of things as we move into the second half of the school year.
The state legislature begins it session next Tuesday, January 22. Governor Kate Brown has outlined some key priority areas and targeted significant investment in education. For the 2019-21 biennium, the governor has asked the legislature to come up with a funding package to lower class sizes, lengthen the school year, fully-fund Measure 98, and provide preschool for more Oregon students.
I am working with legislators and regional superintendents to determine the impact funding will have on our district with the goal of better supporting our students, staff, and families. We are already looking at our budget for the 2019-20 school year. Our first budget committee meeting is February 7.
A new year is a good time to reflect on our practice. We are a district that has, what we believe is, the only civility policy in the state. We recognize our responsibility to demonstrate to our students, families, and community how important it is to interact with one another respectfully. I came across an article that speaks to this aspect of our work: to help kids understand to be kind and considerate. If you have a moment, please take some time to read it.
Best,

Due to changes in federal tax laws, using your federal Form W-4 allowances for Oregon withholding calculations may no longer result in the correct amount of withholding for Oregon personal income taxes. You might not be withholding enough to cover your Oregon tax liability, which could result in you owing money when you file your taxes.
To check your state withholding, you can use the state's online withholding calculator, which will help you calculate your state withholding allowances. To update your state withholding, complete Form OR-W-4, Oregon Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate, and give it to your employer.

Join us on Wednesday, January 23, to hear about the resources (free college credits) and supports available to classified staff. A simple act of kindness has made a world of difference for one high school wrestler. We know that sports are about more than winning and losing. This inspirational video proves, sometimes, everybody wins.
