Love for Learning
🎵 Music with Ms. Pollyn 🎶
Our Music program inspires a love for learning by helping students develop essential musical skills that also support their academic growth. Here’s a glimpse of what’s happening inside the music classroom:
Skills Students Are Learning:
Students are mastering rhythm, melody, dynamics, tempo, and pitch, which enhance their listening and concentration skills—important in both music and academics.
Older students are diving into music theory, exploring notes and note patterns while building teamwork through group performances.
Events & Clubs:
Our concerts offer students the chance to showcase their talents, whether singing in choir, playing an instrument, or performing solo.
The 5th grade ukulele club (which is starting soon) gives students extra opportunities to develop their skills.
Collaboration with Core Instruction:
Music lessons tie into classroom learning, such as exploring rhythms and beats and storytelling that supports literacy skills most specifically with our younger students.
We also connect music with history and culture, helping students see how music reflects historical events and societal changes.
Why It Matters: Music enhances memory, attention, and teamwork—skills essential for academic success. Through music, students gain confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love for learning.
🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♂️ PE with Coach Lundy 🏀 ⚽
The goals in PE are always to meet and exceed the Arizona standards for Physical Education.
What does that look like at Pima Butte?
- For Pre-K through 2nd grade, our focus is on developing a variety of motor skills and movement patterns as we introduce a fitness regimen that is age appropriate that the students can build on as they progress.
- Additionally, for the pre-k and kindergarten classes, we have introduced some activities, with the help of our Academic Coach Ms. Fisher, that will encourage the earlier skills needed to read.
- For the 3rd - 5th grade classes the focus is on perfecting the fine motor skills and providing the guidance and encouragement for good sportsmanship and cooperation with others. We have included some fun games and activities that encompass all of the skills and benchmarks required for the advancement of all students to the next level. As always, we try to incorporate fun into the lessons on a daily basis.
If you would like to know the fun activities that we do in PE, ask your students what their favorites are. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your students growth and journey to excellence!
📖 Library with Ms. Bev 📚
The library has gotten into full swing with students enjoying storytime and checking out their favorite books. Please keep encouraging your child to check out new books, as reading can benefit your child in so many ways - vocabulary, creativity, concentration and stress relief to name a few.
In November, we celebrated Indigenous People's month with volunteers coming to read some great books featuring Native American cultures. We will continue to have volunteer readers in the spring.
If you did not signed the permission for your child to check out library books when doing their registration, please call the front office to update that permission so your child can begin to check out books and grow their interest in reading!
