Cedar Hill Football Advances to Regional Quarterfinal Matchup vs. Tomball.
The Cedar Hill High School Football Team has scored 121 points over its past two playoff victories.
But that may not even be the Longhorns’ most impressive statistic.
They outrushed North Forney, 379-68, en route to a 59-21 Area Championship Game on Friday night at Hanby Stadium in Mesquite. The Falcons finished the season at 9-3.
Here's a photo gallery from the game.
The Longhorns (7-5) were one of three District 6A-11 teams to advance to the Regional Quarterfinals, along with Duncanville and DeSoto -- both of whom are defending State Champions. Teams from 6A-11 are 7-1 in the playoffs so far this postseason.
The winner of next week's Cedar Hill-Tomball Regional Quarterfinal Game will face DeSoto or Willis in the Regional Semifinals next weekend.
Cedar Hill won the Area Round for the third time in four seasons.
Cedar Hill has won six of its past seven games. Longhorns starting quarterback Anthony Edwards is 6-1 as a starter during that stretch with 16 touchdowns and no interceptions. He has 1,138 passing yards through seven games.
Dayshun Reese-Williams had 19 carries for 138 yards and a touchdown (his fifth of the season). It was Reese-Williams’ third consecutive 100+ yard game.
Cedederick Castleberry finished with 17 carries for a career-high 136 yards and a touchdown.
Zhaiylen Scott finished with four carries for 18 yards and a touchdown (team-high eighth rushing touchdown).
Jalen Brewster scored his first varsity touchdown on a 37-yard carry in the final minutes of the game.
Meet The Cougars
Tomball (8-4), like Cedar Hill, finished fourth in its district. Unlike the Longhorns, all three of the teams that finished ahead of Tomball in District 6A-15 are no longer in the playoffs.
The Cougars advanced to the Regional Quarterfinals by defeating Cypress Falls, 32-6, in the first round. Cypress Falls is the school that Cedar Hill defeated in the 2006 State Championship Game.
Last Saturday, Tomball edged Conroe Oak Ridge, 25-24, in the Area Championship.
The Cougars are in the Regional Quarterfinals for the third consecutive
season. They lost to eventual state champion, DeSoto, in the Regional Quarterfinals last season. They lost to Denton Guyer in the State Semifinals in 2021.
In 2020, Cedar Hill defeated Tomball Memorial in the Regional Quarterfinals.
