Senior Check Out
Here we go!!!! We are almost to the end of the school year. You will want to begin checking on your senior scholar’s status and make sure that you return any iPads, cords, charging blocks, headphones, calculators, books, uniforms, Chromebooks, musical instruments, or anything else you may have borrowed from any of the Hopkins Schools. You may bring them all to VEDU.
Senior Checkout
Below are the steps you can use to view your scholar’s progress toward checking out. Please know that departments will not fully update their lists until Friday, May 24th, so you have about a week to begin returning items that belong to Hopkins schools.
Click here to view your scholar’s progress in turning in materials or completing important tasks.
Click here to view instructions on how to see what’s specifically checked out to your scholar in Destiny - you will need to use your scholar’s iPad to do so.
Use Edit > Find and Replace to find Student ID + on the list.
A checkmark indicates the item(s) have been returned or action has been completed.
Any questions can be directed to the appropriate department.
Cap and gown will not be distributed until all boxes are checked.
Finally, please note that if your scholar is on the bubble and needs all Term 4 credits in order to walk in the commencement ceremony and graduate, their status will be marked as WILL NOT GRADUATE, until they are academically cleared by their school counselor. Please do not panic about this status. As soon as grades are in, your scholar’s status will be updated.

Media Corner
We have been running a Kid's Coding Club for our elementary students during WIN time for most of this school year. It's a very collaborative group that enjoys sharing their ideas, creativity and curiosity with each other. If your student would like to start to learn code, continue learning code or maybe you can learn alongside your student, check out Code.org's activities! There's something for everyone! Anyone can learn to code, and it's not just for those interested in sharpening their computer skills. Coding helps people develop teamwork and interpersonal skills - something we could all improve upon.
Specialist Updates
Secondary Updates
6-12th graders' last unit of the year is "What's Your Impact?" Students are learning about their impact on the planet, on their communities, and the world, as well as dreaming up what kind of potential impact they'd like to have in the future. The unit will culminate in a written and presented or recorded speech in which students will answer that very question.
Please encourage your student(s) to engage with you in conversation about this topic! Please also have them check their grades in Canvas, and reach out to any teachers with questions or concerns.
Elementary Updates
Spring has arrived in Minnesota, inviting us to step outside and discover the connections between math and nature.
Take a walk outdoors and collect treasures like acorns, pinecones, dandelions, colorful flowers or leaves. These natural finds double as great math tools, perfect for counting, sorting, and discovering patterns. Try using acorns or rocks as counters, making groups of 5 or 10, practicing addition or subtraction, and exploring concepts like more or less. Your young explorer can also practice comparing their items by size, ordering them from smallest to largest.
Measurements are everywhere in nature! Grab a ruler or measuring tape and explore the lengths of sticks, circumference of trees, distances between landmarks, heights of plants, or the number of petals on flowers. Try estimating first, then measure or count to see how close your estimate was. These hands-on activities not only boost math skills but also deepen our connection to math and how it appears in the natural world. Scholars can also measure the temperature, recording tallies and totals to determine the most frequently occurring temperature each month. They can also measure hours of daylight by tracking sunrise and sunset, then graph the data on a bar or line graph to see if any trends or predictions emerge.
Looking for something simpler? Step outside, observe your surroundings, and create a math scavenger hunt! Call out clues for your child on the spot, like "Find five pinecones, three yellow leaves, and two rocks shaped like triangles." This activity sharpens math skills, sparks curiosity, encourages outdoor exploration, requires no planning, and, best of all, it's lots of fun! Happy exploring!

Community Resources
Summer EBT
In summer 2024, Minnesota will launch Summer EBT, a new grocery benefits program that provides families $120 for each eligible school-aged child to buy groceries when school is out. Summer is a time when many children lose the free and reduced-price meals they get at school, and when households might need a little extra help putting meals on the table. The new program is in addition to free meals that kids of all ages can get at summer meal sites in their communities.
To receive this benefit a family must have a free/reduced application on file with the Nutrition Department. Please call 952-988-5303 to see if you qualify.
Lost & Found:
Please have your scholar check the lost and & found bin in the blended learning space! We have many lost and found items that need to be picked up.
