Mrs. Dailey's AP Calculus class deepened their understanding of the relationship between the graph of a function and the graph of its derivative with a partner card sort activity.
Mrs. LaSalle's & Mrs. Dailey's Geometry students began their study of transformations with a group mapping activity in which they had to determine where a work crew should connect underground cable lines to minimize the amount of cable being used.
Education Pathway
Working With Children class evaluated children's books and then chose their favorite to illustrate on a pumpkin. This week advanced students started their internships at North Scituate Elementary School.
From Culinary
Culinary students have been busy learning various cutting and baking techniques starting with mug recipes that are microwaved. Students made pancakes on September 26th, National Pancake Day. This week started the fruit unit preparing apple crisp, which was a favorite!
Academy of Engineering
Introduction to Engineering Design
In class we've been learning each of the different commands in a Computer Aided Design program by way of building a tank. Previously we learned how to use various sketching tools to make lines and arcs in the sizes and orientations we desire, and then turning that into a 3D feature that is straight with a constant cross-section. That allowed us to build the hull of the tank. Last week we learned some tricks for making repetitive features, like wheels, or even lug nut holes on those wheels. This week, we broke new ground by making features that are not straight, like the turret, barrel, and antenna. The progress that students have made can be seen below.
Computer Integrated Manufacturing
The students have begun rotating through training stations. This is done by students watching a video on the topic, answering questions as they go, then doing a practical exercise to practice what they saw in the video. This also means that all students are studying a different manufacturing technique at any given time. In the collage below we see (clockwise from upper left) Jessica Adams carving a sign with a computer-controlled router, Bryce Guilmain drilling holes in sheet metal before folding it and riveting it, Cole Birmingham and Chris Hourigan doing electronics soldering, Cole Couillard practicing stick welding, and Oscar Dominguez soldering pipes together.

Sustainability Help
We're making a special effort at this year's Scituate Art Festival to divert solid waste from the landfill. Volunteers will work behind the food court booths in managing back-of-the-kitchen waste. Duties do NOT include hauling garbage, but instead focus on providing information and assistance to the busy food vendor volunteers. Please copy and paste the following link into your browser to sign up (Fri 10/11 through Mon 10/14). Online training for all volunteers will be provided by our partners at Epic Renewal.
Copy and paste this URL into your browser to volunteer:

We're also posting this invitation on the Scituate Facebook Page and the Scituate Sustainability Committee Facebook page, if you'd rather link from there. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you!

Students Please Drive Safe!
Recently the School District and Police Department has received complaints from parents, guardians, and community members. They have alleged high school students are driving in an unsafe manner on campus during arrival and dismissal periods. They have also alleged students are driving at high rates of speed on the roadways that surround the school. These concerns are being taken seriously.
To ensure that all students are driving safely, the school admin and SRO Parenti will be monitoring arrival and dismissal in the coming days. Additionally, the Scituate Police Department will be conducting radar speed enforcement. The Police Department will enforce speed zones with ticketing. Students observed driving in an unsafe manner could have their parking privileges revoked.
Please do your part to keep our school safe.

First Ever Newcomer Breakfast!
Newcomers Breakfast
Miss Coria and Miss Mixner along with other members of our support staff/administration hosted a Newcomers Breakfast during advisory on Thursday for students who are new to the district this year. Students had the opportunity to meet new peers, build rapport with members of our staff, and have their questions about life as a Scituate High School student answered from some of our upperclassmen. We shared a meal, played ice-breaker/team-building games, and had meaningful conversations. Thank you to all the students who participated and made this event so successful. We look forward to doing this in years to come!
Seniors!!
Attention Seniors and Parents/Guardians:
A reminder to start preparing for your next steps. Here's what you need to do:
FSA ID – If you haven’t already, make sure you create your FSA ID now. You’ll need this ID to complete your FAFSA and access federal student aid. Students and their contributors will need to complete the FSA ID. Learn more about contributors here.
FAFSA – The FAFSA opens on December 1, but don’t wait until the last minute! Get your FSA ID set up and gather the necessary documents so you're ready to apply as soon as it opens.
Don’t miss this important step for financial aid! Without an FSA ID, you won’t be able to complete your FAFSA, and without the FAFSA, you won’t be eligible for any federal grants or loans. You never know what you might qualify for! Having choices is key! For any questions, reach out to your school counselor or visit the College Planning Center for assistance.

Updated Resources for Distribution
The updated English and Spanish versions of the ACN Registration Guide and ACN Signup flyers have not yet been posted on RIDE’s ACN website, but we wanted to ensure that you had them. They’re attached to this email - please distribute widely to students and families.
Important Dates and Deadlines
- Spring 2025 semester: January 13 – May 16 with varied dates
- Pre-lottery registration runs through December 6, 2024.
- School approval deadline is December 9 at 12pm. Students with pending approvals after this deadline has passed will not be included in the course lotteries.
- Spring 2025 course lotteries run on December 10. Students are notified by email same day with a seat offer or waitlist number for each course they preregistered for.
- Seat offer deadline: Students have until January 2 at 11:59pm to accept or decline their seat offers before they expire. A course with an expired seat offer will not be available to them in their EnrollRI dashboards if they try to re-register post-lottery.
- Open enrollment runs from January 3 through the last day of the add drop period for each course. Courses with seat availability will be filled on a first come first serve basis as students register and move up the waitlist. Prompt approvals will help ensure a student secures a seat in a preregistered course during open enrollment.
ACN Team School Visits
The ACN team is available to do school visits to share ACN info and help students preregister for Spring 2025 courses. Please let us know if you’d like us to visit and we’ll be happy to schedule a time that works best for you and your students.

Scituate Alumni Association Tip of the Week
My tip: Don’t get so stressed when it comes to life after high school. Things might not be clear right now but I promise in 10 years you’ll have it figured out. It seems like a long time, but everyone goes at their own pace in life. Don’t let others timelines deter you from your own! P.S. College isn’t for everyone and that’s okay! -Rachel Fortier Class of 2014
