We had a wonderful visit from author Candace Fleming author of her new book, MINE! and many other wonderful books. Candace Fleming shared with our students how she grows her writing ideas, shared her work from draft form to final product and then shares the work with her husband Eric Rohmann as he is the illustrator of a number of her books. Candace Fleming also shared how the illustrations develop over time when developing a picture book. We were very fortunate to have this time with this Master Author. See Images below.

We had a successful fire drill, lockdown drill and tornado drill with the county fire and police departments. We will have two more fire drills throughout this school year.

Next week is Halloween on Tuesday. Please read below the information in regards to the parade and costumes. The information was shared last week as well.

Please check out the information on DANCE FIT our biggest fundraiser of this school year. We are trying something new so hopefully this will be fun for all and help benefit the Wild Rose School Community.

We will have an OUTDOOR parade on Tuesday, October 31st @ 1:30 PM on the back blacktop of the playground in the back of the building. Parents can line-up along the outline of the blacktop. Students will parade by grade level from kindergarten to fifth grade for all to see. If we have inclement weather the parade will be inside the community room and gym spaces. It is supposed to be cold so dress accordingly.

Celebrations in classrooms will begin at 1:45 PM. Volunteers for classrooms can arrive at 1:15 to set up and help classroom teachers prepare for the parade. Volunteers Please DO NOT PARK in the pick up lane for dismissal (east side street along the building). It is helpful to carpool if possible as parking is challenging.

There will be no food at any of the celebrations at school.

Costumes will be put on in the afternoon prior to the parade. However if there are parts of a child's costume that need to be done prior to coming to school (hair, make-up, a specific shirt or pants then please have student prepared in the morning).

Costumes:

• No fake weapons allowed at school
• No scary, blood, gory or costumes that encourage violence
• Costumes must be appropriate for school
• No scary masks or scary make-up
• Blow up costumes are allowed, but students will be asked to deflate their costume in order to participate in classroom activities.

If you feel your costume is questionable for school, I would trust your feelings and choose something different. If you have any questions you can always call the office and ask.

For the 10th year in a row, D303 is again partnering with Big Hearts of Fox Valley, which supports families in need during the holiday season. Big Hearts of Fox Valley Holiday Giving Program's purpose is to provide holiday gifts for D303 students and their younger siblings whose families face significant financial hardship.
