Cedar Grove Friday Flash
September 22, 2023
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
MCPS created a new guide to help families, students and teachers work together to ensure student success. The Pathway to College, Career and Community Readiness helps identify students’ strengths and areas of improvement to ensure each student receives the support they need. Data will be collected from a variety of sources including classroom, county, and state assessments and will be used to address student learning needs. Parents will receive information about whether their child is meeting or not meeting these specific benchmarks and work together with staff and students to determine how to best help their student succeed. Please click here for more information.
The following information was sent out by MCPS regarding ParentVue updates. Please check your contact information and make any needed corrections or changes, as we rely on this information should we need to get in touch with you. If you need any assistance, please call the school office. Thank you.
The Annual Verification process allows for families to update contact information, collect important information about parent(s)/guardian(s) and the student. This includes any medical, immunization, language preferences, and emergency information that school staff need to know. MCPS uses ParentVUE to collect this information electronically. Online registration is available now until October 20th.
As a reminder, there is no school for students and staff this Monday, September 25. Enjoy the long weekend!

Annual Notification of Asbestos Management Plan
The federal Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) of 1986 requires local education agencies to inspect their schools for asbestos-containing building material and prepare management plans to prevent or reduce asbestos hazards. Asbestos Management Plans have been prepared for all MCPS facilities. These plans outline the location and condition of ACM based on inspections of the facilities. The Asbestos Abatement Unit conducts semi-annual surveys of each facility with ACM to assess the condition of the material and to identify necessary remedial work. The inspection results are kept on file with the Asbestos Management Plans. For more information, please click on the link below.
From Mrs. Hirschhorn, Media Specialist
We're in the middle of Hispanic America Heritage month and have lots of beautiful books that celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. Please encourage your students to come browse those! In addition, we just wrapped our second live morning news show and we're thrilled with the results. Our first crew is working so hard. Please bookmark the September newsletter. We are always looking for parent volunteers to help keep our media center open for book check out. By the way, we are getting ready for our Great Pumpkin Storybook Character Pumpkin Decorating contest, so if you want to start thinking of some ideas, feel free! We will update this newsletter every Friday to make sure you know what's happening in the Media Center!
