MLK, Jr. Day
Schools will be closed on Monday, January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. In 1964, MLK, Jr. became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. In his honor, make this "day off" a "day on," and find a way to serve others today.
In the words of MLK, Jr., "everybody can be great…because anybody can serve...you only need a heart full of grace...a soul generated by love.”

*SENIOR SCOOP*
Cap & Gown Measurements
A representative from Herff Jones will be at LHS on February 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. (outside of staff sign-in) to measure seniors for their caps and gowns. Orders can be placed directly with the representative, but must be paid for at the time of the order. If you place your order online you do not have to visit the Herff Jones representative. You will be receiving an ordering packet in the mail sometime in late January.

However, if you would like to order just the cap, gown, and tassel, ask for the "Basic Package (B)," which is $35 (including tax). If you miss the in-person days, you can then call Herff Jones directly with your height and a credit card number.

"Untranslatables"
lillördag [lil-or-dog]
Swedish: "Little Saturday" - Lillördag is a Nordic culture tradition and a way to break up the monotony of the week with something planned on Wednesday evenings. This mid-week break could look different to everyone...it might mean a mini-celebration, a get-together with friends, a quiet evening with family, or even just an excuse to indulge yourself in a sweet treat! This simple tradition gives folks something to look forward to during the week instead of just longing for the weekend, and is practiced in Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Bulgaria.
shinshin [sheen-sheen]
Japanese: the sound of no sound; this word describes the silence of falling snow, the quiet that seems to envelope the earth during and after a snowfall.
