October 30, 2024 - NEWSLETTER
Hello Centerview families!
I’m not sure where October has gone, but it blew by! As a reminder, students do not have school this Friday, November 1.
Certified staff will be at Centerview on Friday for a professional learning day. It will be a full day of learning around the science of teaching reading and how we can grow in our understanding and depth around phonics, decoding and irregular words. Yes, it’s a science! Our outcome is to provide explicit instruction to better personalize and engage each student in the reading process. We value the professional time as a Centerview staff, and we’ll put specific instructional strategies into practice when students arrive back on Monday, November 4.
While we wrapped up scheduled October conferences, we know that our communications and connections will continue. Let’s continue the 2-way communication through classroom newsletters, school newsletters, email, phone calls, Seesaw and Schoology. All these avenues of communication offer opportunities for us to partner. Know that your efforts and voice are appreciated.
Tomorrow is Halloween, and we know many students and families participate in a variety of Halloween-inspired activities. Please remember that we do not celebrate Halloween during the school day. Please keep any costumes and treats at home to enjoy after school.
We will celebrate fall in a few weeks. Centerview classrooms and grade levels will be having a fall and trimester celebration. Keep an eye out for information to come!
Enjoy the end of the week and weekend! We’ll miss all of our kiddos on Friday and will look forward to seeing them back on Monday!
Take care,
Mike
Issues with MyStop app
If you have bus riders in your household and use the MyStop app, please be aware that the app is experiencing issues. Due to a software configuration problem, the MyStop app (that provides real time bus route information) is not functioning properly. All of the entities that support the app are actively working to correct the problem. Transportation will notify bus riding families when the issues has been resolved. Thank you for your patience. Any questions can be directed to transportation@district16.org.

The Scholastic book fair, Nov. 4-8
The Scholastic book fair will start on Monday, November 4 and will run through Friday, November 8. A Family Shopping Night will be held in the Learning Commons on November 7 from 4:30-7 p.m. Enjoy dinner after shopping! Hotdogs, chips, water and treats will be available for $1 each. Cash only.
EWallets for students can be set up by visiting our Scholastic Book Fair homepage. EWallet is a great way for students to purchase books without having to worry about keeping track of cash during the school day and streamlines the check out process. EWallets can be set up in advance of the fair or can be set up during the week of the fair and any leftover funds will roll over to the next book fair or can be used to purchase books online.
Volunteer help is needed on purchase days (Wednesday and Thursday) to help make the fair a success. Please see the SignUp Genius to sign up if you would like to help connect kids to their next great read. Thank you in advance to all of our amazing volunteers!
