Charger Check-In
August 29, 2024
A Note from Ms. Owens
We had quite the hot and humid start to the week! Our resilient students, faculty and staff hung tough in spite of the sweaty conditions. Thank you to our lunch/recess parents for supervising indoor recess on Monday and Tuesday. Thank you to Mr. Badali and Mr. Donahue for resolving the issue with the HVAC system in the gym. Thank you Mr. Chesna and Mr. Barajas for figuring out we can "reboot" the window AC units in the classrooms. (Room 205 is cool once again!) Thank you to the students in Room 205, to Mrs. Flisk and to Ms. Garcia for their flexibilty in relocating to the church vestibule for cooler conditions.
SCA's Homecoming festivities will kick off next week with a pep rally in the gym on Friday, September 6 beginning at 1:45PM. School families are welcome to attend. We will have limited bleacher seating available. Doors will open at 1:30PM. Fall student-athletes are welcome to wear their jerseys to school on the day of the pep rally. It will be a school-wide Charger Pride Dress Down (no donation).
- Homecoming Mass will be held on Saturday, September 7 at 4PM. Famlies with football players and cheerleaders are expected to attend this mass.
- Details for Sunday's parade, football games and celebration are further down in the Check-In.
A Bit More News...
- There is no school on Monday, September 2 in honor of Labor Day. Click here to learn more about the history of Labor Day in the United States.
- New this year, students arriving to school after 8:05AM will be marked tardy. (In past years, it was 8:10AM.) This moves the start of instructional time to five minutes sooner than in past years and will capture an additional 100 minutes of instructional time each month.
- School Picture Day (PK3-8) is set for Wednesday, September 4. Information went home with all students today. Students can dress out of uniform on Picture Day. Shoes need to be in alignment with expectations for shoes on out of uniform days.
- Student Council candidates will present their candidacy speeches to 6th, 7th and 8th graders on Wednesday, September 4 at 1PM in the church. Parents and guardians are welcome to attend. SCA students who are siblings/cousins/etc. will remain in class.
- The first band class of the year will meet on Thursday, September 5.

Parent-Student Handbook Updates
- Daily Schedule - update to tardy bell and morning entry procedures
- The added flexibility for morning entry is intended to help those families with children in multiple grade levels. We ask, as much as possible, for K-4th grade students to continue to enter the building via Door 9 on the main/center parking lot. This is the same door we used last year.
- Cell Phones, Smart Watches and Similar Devices - update to end of day usage
- Supply of Undesignated Opioid Antagonists - new state law as of 1.1.24
- Uniform - update to uniform shorts for boys and uniform pants for girls
- also updated: milk program, timing of fall PTC, teacher requests
- clarification on shoes
- Hey Dudes may be worn; they should be considered dress shoes and must adhere to the expectation that school shoes be brown or black
A Reminder from the Athletic Board
As we begin the school year and ramp up for the start of athletic events in the gym, please remember that scooters are not permitted in the gym, in the gym kitchen or in the Alexandria Center. If your child rides their scooter to the gym for a game, for practice or for another occasion, it should be charged before leaving home, and the scooter should be locked up at the bike rack.
Bitty Basketball Registration
Registration for Bitty Basketball is open. This program is open to SCA students in 1st through 3rd grades - both girls and boys!
