District 103
School Board Highlights
May 21, 2024
Student Recognition
The School Board recognized Daniel Wright students for their highest level of achievement in a school club or sport.
Assistant Principal Hired
The Board hired Kyle Thompson for the Daniel Wright Assistant Principal position effective July 1. Mr. Thompson replaces interim assistant principal Dr. Susan Baker. Mr. Thompson comes to the district from the TrueNorth Educational Cooperative in Northbrook where he serves as school counselor and intervention specialist.
Resolution On Opening Schools Not Used as Polling Places
The Board approved a resolution to the Illinois Association of School Boards to support legislation that school districts should not be mandated to close on Election Day if the schools do not serve as polling places. District 103 schools are not used as polling places and could stay open if the legislation was changed.
SACEE Committee Overview
Drs. Scott Warren and Katie Reynolds provided the Board with an overview of the work of the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee for Equitable Education (SACEE) accomplished this year and an overview of the draft action plans for the 2024-2025 school year.
SACEE’s mission is to help the district discover ways to build understanding and appreciation between cultures and strengthen partnerships within the school community.
The group was instrumental in recommending a student belonging survey to see how students felt about their school environment and friendships.
SACEE’s goals for the 2024-2025 school year include:
Increase community awareness of culturally responsive teaching practices in the district.
Recognize and celebrate the similarities and differences among us.
Identify support systems that provide mentorship of students and families.
Identify inequities in our system and create opportunities for improvement.
Classified and Administrative Salary Increases
The Board reviewed classified and administrative salary information for the 2024-2025 school year. Action is expected at an upcoming meeting.
Teacher Tentative Agreement Approved
The Board of Education unanimously approved a four-year tentative agreement with the Lincolnshire-Prairie View Teachers’ Association (LPVTA).
Board President Anne van Gerven thanked the negotiating team for a collaborative process. The LPVTA ratified the tentative agreement earlier this month. The Board will take action on the final version of the contract at a future meeting.
The new contract will go into effect August 19, 2024, for the 189 staff members.
