K-8 Campus Updates
Parent Communication Protocol:
Please take a look at our Parent Communication Protocol document found in the attachment below. We think this document will help you get the answers you need from the appropriate folks as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience as well as your willingness to follow the protocol as listed below. This helps remove multiple people working on the same issues unknowingly at the same time, and ensures that the protocol is followed accurately to prevent delays or misinformation being shared. Thank you for your help with this!
Dress Code Clarity:
Parents, we've had several students asking lately about dress code. The dress code does not allow for holes above the knees in jeans. However, we made an exception to this rule earlier this year and do allow minimal tears and frays above the knees ONLY if there is fabric behind the tears/frays.
Also, yoga pants are NOT allowed. This includes a "new" type of "yoga flare pants" that have recently become popular at CGS. They are still yoga pants and are not appropriate for school.
Thank you,
Mrs. Spencer
High School Campus Updates
Hi Grizzly Families,
I hope everyone is doing well after the storm-filled Friday. As we head into the week before our next academic break, we have the English 2 NCCI on Monday for Mrs. Bryant's semester-long classes and mid-terms for the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th periods this week on October 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
Our character trait for October and November is integrity. Scholars will participate in lessons and activities focused on integrity each morning from 7:40-8:01.
Please continue to have your students arrive by 8:00 and be picked up by 3:20. If your scholar is staying for after-school tutoring; please be sure to be on time to pick them up after their session. If you have questions about tutoring, please contact their teacher.
On Friday, October 4th, our high school scholars will participate in a Social Learning Experience. Beginning at 9:30, scholars will participate in interactive activities that encourage collaboration, kindness, and positive communication to build relationships.
The weather has been quite typical for North Carolina, with cool mornings and hot afternoons. Please review the student dress code with your scholars to ensure they are appropriately dressed (no sweatpants material, leggings can be worn under a dress/skirt that is 3 inches above the knee, no yoga pants, no midriffs, etc.)
Parents of scholars taking online NCVPS courses and ACC courses--These courses continue during breaks. If there are concerns or questions about assignments during the break, please reach out to the course instructors. Be sure to check with your scholar on their progress to ensure they are completing and submitting assignments when they are due to prevent falling behind.
Seniors--Please complete the Senior Spotlight form by October 1st. It is linked here and in the Senior Canvas course. All seniors need to complete this Google form.
As always, thank you for your continuous support!
Dr. Morris
High School Student Advising Information and Opportunities:
CFNC and CommonApp:
Dr. Morris met with Mr. Pegram's English IV class on Thursday to have students create a CFNC and CommonApp account. Here is a link to the presentation. Students were asked to use a professional personal email address to create their accounts because colleges and universities will use it to communicate application information. Please be sure to complete the Residency Determination Service form with your scholar and begin gathering the documents needed for FASFA. The FASFA portal will be opening by December 1st.
Local Scholarship Opportunities:
Burlington Women's Club Scholarship Opportunity Instructions and Application
ACC Course Registration:
An ACC representative will be contacting students enrolled for Spring semester courses at ACC to schedule an advising meeting. They will receive information about in-person advising at Clover Garden on November 5th & 7th, with the ZOOM option on November 4th. Mrs. Sutton will share a specific Phone/ZOOM advising link for the next two weeks in case there are students who want to schedule a phone or ZOOM in the first two weeks of October.

Testing Calendar- 2024-2025
Students preparing for the SAT can access free SAT prep through Khan Academy. Although we don't offer the SAT on campus, this test prep can be beneficial for our 8th/9th graders taking the PSAT and our 11th graders taking the PSAT/NMSQT in October at Clover Garden. It's a great way to expose your students to the question types they may see on the SAT, PSAT 8/9, and PSAT/NMSQT for our 11th graders.
10th graders will be taking the PreACT in October at Clover Garden. Here is a link to ACT.org for free testing practice and tips. 11th-grade students who plan to take the ACT before the spring administration at Clover Garden or those who are getting a jump start on taking the ACT can begin preparing by utilizing the same free resources.
Please contact our District Testing Coordinator, Ms. Ginter at tonyaginter@cgsnc.org for any questions or concerns.

Hi, my name is Patricia Thayer. I recently moved from Lincolnton to Burlington with my husband Brian and our cocker spaniel Lexi. I've enjoyed the last six years as a teacher's assistant in various grades and look forward to building relationships wherever I go. When I'm not in the classroom, I enjoy being outdoors. Camping, hiking, gardening and golfing are my favorites. I also love spending time with my four, soon to be five grandchildren.
Mrs. Wilson- Middle School Science and Social Studies
Hi, My name is Rebecca Wilson. I have been a substitute teacher at Clover Garden for 4 years. Prior to that, I have worked in the education field from K-12 for the last 8 years. I always knew that when my youngest went into Kindergarten, that I would be involved and help wherever needed. I have been married for 19 years to my husband, Steven. Our four children are now ages 15, 13, 10, & 7 attend Clover Garden School. I love spending time with my family and friends. I love to read, take photos for events, and spend the weekends usually having family game nights.
