Superintendent's Monthly Newsletter - December 2024
December Celebration!
As you all know, on Saturday, December 14 there was a fire at Brookside Terrace, impacting EGPS students and families. Moments after hearing the news, various members of EGPS and the Town sprang into action. In the days since, we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of this community. In addition on Monday, December 23, Condesa Mexican Restaurant (located at 721 Quaker Lane in West Warwick) is hosting Tacos for A Cause to support the EGPS Families who have been displaced by this fire. This restaurant is owned by the Leon Family, who live in EG and whose children attend our schools. You can take-our or dine in on Monday, December 23, from 11 AM - 9 PM.
I am overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness of the East Greenwich community.
Good Communication Protocols
As we continue to work together to ensure all EGPS students feel safe, welcomed, and included when they come to school, we are bound to make mistakes. Mistakes are a critical part of the learning process for all of us (adults and students alike) and as long as we learn from them, allow us to grow to our potential.
As families, you can expect to hear back from an e-mail or a phone call inquiry within 24 - 48 hours, not including vacations, holidays, or weekends. If you have not, it's appropriate at that time to reach out to that person's immediate supervisor. In addition, and as a reminder, we have a Policy on Communication Protocols approved by the School Committee. Please refer to it when you have specific concerns (or praise) to share!
Master Plan Updates
On Friday, December 13, our consultant team with representatives from LeftField, Consigli, and Ai3, along with the Town Manager Andrew Nota, Facilities Director Bob Wilmarth and I met with RIDE Officials for a Schematic Design preliminary review. At that meeting, Dr. Joseph DaSilva, RIDE School Construction Coordinator, and Keelia Kentor, a RIDE Education Facility Planner, were present for this discussion. The meeting went very well, with a focus on project timing, phasing, scope of work, budget, and next steps in the Stage III process.
Our next School Construction Committee meeting will be on Thursday, January 9, 2025 in the Swift Community Center. Please join us!
We want to hear from you. Please reach out to me with feedback and questions. If you'd like to contact our partners from Ai3 and LeftField, feel welcome to write to eastgreenwichprojects@gmail.com.
