Welcome Cougars
Week of September 2nd
Welcome back to school
Welcome back to school and welcome to McLaughlin Middle School. We all hope you had a safe, fun and restful summer. Our students started back with us this Wednesday and we had a great kick off to the school year.
While there are some learning curves for everyone, the first couple of weeks of school takes time to adjust. We want to thank you for your support and patience as we navigate the opening of the school year together.
There is no such thing as perfect, please be kind to our staff as we get to know everyone of our students and be kind to your kiddos and yourself for juggling the back to school hustle! It takes a village and we are all there to support each other.

Cell phones and electronics
Cell phones, air pods, apple watches, tablets, beats, personal gaming systems; anything deemed an electronic device is not allowed to be visible or on during the school day.
While we agree that cell phones are a great tool for emergencies etc. they are a huge distraction to a students learning. A lot of our discipline and students being unkind to each other starts out of school and on social media. It is then brought into the building and disrupts the education of many. It also takes resources and time away from staff that have to investigate what is going on with students on cell phones.
Please refrain from texting your child during the day. It puts them in a tough situation where they want to check what you are texting them but are not allowed to. Please make your plans the night before or morning of, before your student gets dropped off. If you need to speak to your child such as, there's a change in pick up or where they need to go after school etc. Please call the front office and we can relay that message to them (603) 628-6247.
There is a land line in every single classroom in our school. If there is an emergency your child will be able to call out. We have a text and email system that if there are any late buses, cancellations etc, we will use that to notify you.
Please help partner with us to make sure your student follows the rule of OFF AND AWAY when it comes to all electronic devices.
If a child has to bring their phone down to the front office the steps are as follows:
1. first offence- student receives their cell phone or any electronic device back after they sing off on it
2. second offense and EVERY offense after that, a parent MUST come get the phone or electronic device. Our office closes promptly at 3pm and you will have to make accommodations to come get their device before we close or get it the next day during our office hours of 7am-2pm.
Please remember if your child follows the rule we will not have any issues. Being kind to those who are implementing the rule and needing to enforce it will be the only way we have a discussion with a parent about cell phones. Yelling, swearing and threatening will not be tolerated, again if we follow the rules we should not have any issues.

Open House September 9th from 5-6:30
This years open house will be done differently and follow suit with the other middle schools in our district.
We will be hosting our open house on Monday, September 9th from 5-6:30pm.
Parents will receive a printed copy of students schedules, be able to tour the school and team areas as well as receive a welcome letter from each of their child's teachers, a syllabus and supply list that night.
We know that parents can't stay for the entire time, some parents will not be able to attend at all so we do not want to put the pressure on you if you will be missing information with hard scheduled times. We know life is crazy, there are multiple events, work schedules etc to work around. We want to make this as welcoming and comfortable as possible for you to come see where your child spends their day!

Because it takes a village......
The past few years we have really been talking to students about their worth and that THEY MATTER. Please remember we are all human beings. We all have feelings, we all are someone's family member and we all deserve to be treated with kindness.
Every person who walks in our doors matters, there is no home for hate here. Every person is important and every person is worth it! No one is better than anyone else and there is no such thing as perfect. Please talk to your student about being kind, please let them see you be kind to others and please help them navigate this time in their lives where they are finding out who they are. We love all of our students, they deserve the very best and they deserve to feel safe and wanted here by their teachers and their peers. Please know that we work very hard and we will do everything we can to always get it right, you are apart of our village just as much as we are a part of yours! Welcome to the McLaughlin Community- "Do the right thing, because it's the right thing to do".
