Counselor's Corner
Otsego Elementary School: What's Miss Mikesina planning?
December 2014
Olweus Bullying Prevention Questionnaire
Within the last two weeks of school before winter break our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will be provided the opportunity to take a survey about their perception of bullying at our school. The results of this survey will help OES focus our efforts toward better prevention.
Parent Connection: Helping children identify emotions
Here is an activity that you can do at home with your children. They can do it individually or you can make it a family activity. Helping them understand what different emotions look & feel like and in return, how to cope with them can be very helpful in self-regulation. Having self-regulation and understanding of their feelings can help them be successful in the school environment.
November Events: Recap
OSU/Michigan Food Drive
As a school, we donated over 1,000 items to the Otsego Food Bank the week before Thanksgiving! OSU won by a landslide... Thanks to all who donated to help our community!
OES Post Office (Wee Mail)
November 14th was the first delivery for our post office! Our 4th grade workers were trained and have been working hard! We had two deliveries this month and delivered a total of 246 letters!
What's going on in the classrooms?
As the school counselor, I often visit in the classrooms. I take requests from teachers on what topics I could cover to help support their curriculum. Since there are so many classes in the building, I may not necessarily visit every classroom every month. Some topics I may cover include positive school behaviors, identifying feelings, character traits (responsibility, respect, etc.), and much more. Here is what was done in November:
1: Friendship
5: Internet Safety
