Gateway Regional Community Newsletter April 7, 2025

Principal's Message
Gateway Regional High School is excited to host a heartwarming and enriching event: The Community Stroll, happening April 12th and 13th! Families from across the sending districts are invited to join us as we celebrate literacy, culture, and community in a meaningful way.
During this special weekend, students and their families will visit local businesses throughout Westville, Wenonah, Woodbury Heights, Mantua, Deptford, and National Park. At each stop, children will be encouraged to share a short poem, quote, story, or song that highlights a culture that’s meaningful to them. In return, they’ll receive a small treat from each participating business!
From libraries and ice cream shops to fire departments and local restaurants, this event promises to be a joyful reminder of the power of storytelling and togetherness.
Gateway Group School Performance Parent Letter
April 4, 2025
Dear Parents, Guardians and Members of the School Community,
I am writing to provide information about the 2023-2024 New Jersey School Performance Reports, which were recently released and are available on the NJ School Performance Reports webpage at www.njschooldata.org.
The School Performance Reports reflect the New Jersey Department of Education’s (NJDOE) commitment to providing parents, students, and school communities with a large variety of information about each school and district. These reports can be used as a tool to help evaluate whether all students have equitable access to high quality education. We encourage you to use these reports to:
Learn more about your school and district
Start conversations with school community members and ask questions
Engage with school communities to identify what schools are doing well and where they can improve
You can access the Performance Reports for the Gateway Group Schools at the following links.
The NJDOE has provided the one page guides to help stakeholders digest the information most relevant to them in the Performance Report and to foster conversations.
The NJDOE believes that it is critical to use the data in the reports, along with other information collected directly within districts and communities, to start conversations, identify gaps in information, and continue to find ways to ensure all students receive the support and resources that they need. The School Performance Reports can and should be used in conjunction with available school and district data to identify priorities for upcoming year planning and the use of state and federal dollars.
The NJDOE continues to seek public input on ways to improve future reports. Please complete the School Performance Report feedback survey or email reportcard@doe.nj.gov with feedback and suggestions.
For any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me or to your campus administrator.
Thank you,
Dr. Amy Mount
Gateway Group Director of Curriculum and Instruction
New Jersey School Climate Improvement (NJ SCI) Survey,
Dear Parent/Caregiver(s),
Our school is participating in survey data collection using the New Jersey School Climate Improvement (NJ SCI) Survey to help obtain multiple perspectives on aspects of school climate. Collecting data is important for understanding strengths and needs in our school and how it feels to be a member of the school community.
Your voice is important to us, and your opinions will help us to address current priorities. The survey is anonymous and it is voluntary. The results will be used to help create a plan to address school climate needs and make improvements to the school. You may submit a separate survey per child in the school building if you feel their experiences are different, but you do not have to.
Click here to take the survey and enter the password: parent
If you have any questions during or after the survey, please contact Josh Durand at Jdurand@gatewayhs.com.
We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to exploring new ways to continue working together to create the most supportive and engaging learning environment for your child.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Pierro

Madame Karwoski’s honors French III & IV Classes
On Wednesday, Madame Karwoski’s honors French III & IV classes took a trip to the Hagley Museum in Wilmington, DE. Students toured the 235 acre DuPont property and visited the original home of E.I. DuPont, a French chemist. The DuPont family settled in Delaware where they began their now multi-billion dollar entreprise. The DuPont family home and gardens were inspired from the style of the French country home. Students enjoyed a tour of the home and even completed a French vocabulary word scavenger hunt. C'était une journée très spéciale!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month!
This year we are excited to host our 2nd Annual GREEN MILE WALK for Mental Health Awareness on Saturday, May 10th, which is part of the Mayors Wellness Campaign. Please check out the details on our website at https://boroughofwenonah.com/government/mayor-borough-council/mwc/.
This year we are hoping to expand the event to include more ways for our youth to participate, and will be opening up an essay contest. The contest will be open to Wenonah Students grades 5 - 11. The students will be grouped into two groups by age (grades 5 - 8, and grades 9-11) and one winner will be selected from each age group. The winners will receive a Barnes & Noble Gift Card and will be asked to read their work aloud at the event.
Our panel of adjudicators includes two members of Wenonah's Board of Health (Melissa Buscher and Minelle Eastlack), and one of the event planners, Belle Nicholas (a Wenonah Resident who is a contestant for Miss NJ and her platform is Mental Health Awareness).
If you would please support the Borough by sharing the attached information about the essay contest with your students, we would greatly appreciate it. If there is a digital newsletter or email option, please send around and/or share on your social media. I can also print and drop off hard copies of the form if preferred, just let me know. Also, if there is anyone else at the school I should reach out to directly, please advise.
Entries will be digital, and are open now through April 23rd.
Thank you, in advance, for your support!

Eighth Grade Recognition Ceremony
Dear Parents and Guardians: On Thursday, June 12, 2025, we will hold our Eighth Grade Recognition Ceremony at 6:30 PM. This ceremony will be held in the auditorium with an alternate viewing site in the cafeteria. This ceremony will allow us to recognize each student for their efforts over the past two years. Hopefully, you and your family will be able to attend this function. In order for us to make final plans for this evening, please log in to your child’s PowerSchool account to indicate your wristband (tickets) choice by Tuesday, April 15th. The teachers, administrators and Board of Education members are looking forward to sharing this special ceremony with you. Please plan to arrive before 6:15 PM. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Instructions to access the wristband request form: Accessing the 8th Grade Recognition Wristbands form on the PowerSchool Mobile App
Our ceremony will focus on recognizing all eighth grade students who have successfully completed their middle school education. Each student will be invited to come up and receive a Certificate of Assignment to Gateway Regional High School. Awards will be given for academic achievement, effort, and improvement in each subject, cycle, and physical education. In addition, students demonstrating significant participation in extra-curricular activities will be recognized. Keep in mind with the number of days left in the school year this is not a commencement ceremony.
Since this is a special event, which culminates our students' involvement in the middle school, it is recommended that students dress in business casual attire.
Instructions on finding and completing the form through the PowerSchool website and the PowerSchool Mobile App can be found below.
Parents have the choice to receive either 1, 2, or 3 wristbands to the auditorium. Two additional wristbands may be issued to the alternate cafeteria viewing site, and if you would like to be entered into a drawing for 1 additional wristband to the auditorium you may do so via the survey. A drawing will take place and you will be notified on Thursday, May 22nd through your child’s Gateway email account, if you will receive 1 extra wristband. Wristbands will be sent home with your child on the day of the ceremony.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Pierro, Ed.D.
