Tackle Project delivers cookie kits to Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital
On Oct. 3, Chardon Hilltopper football players baked and then delivered 165 cookie decorating kits to Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital.
The cookie kits were assembled in partnership with D is For Delicious.
Since 2019, CHS football players have raised over $46,000 for various philanthropic initiatives, supporting several local organizations, through the Tackle Project.
“We do one project every month of the football season and added the Tim Tebow Night to Shine Prom ... held every year in February,” Mrs. Kim Vujaklija, Tackle Project advisor, said. “We also got to hand out some boxes to patients leaving the hospital. Truly awesome!”
Backtrack Vocals performs at Chardon Schools
Chardon Local Schools was thrilled to host nationally acclaimed vocal band Backtrack Vocals for several performances throughout the district on Oct. 2.
The five-person A cappella band, based in New York City, made stops at Park Elementary, Munson Elementary and Chardon Middle School. The group not only sang several popular songs, but also encouraged students and staff to sing along, teaching those in attendance how to beatbox and harmonize.
The district would like to thank Music Teacher Samantha Puterbaugh as well as the Chardon Crescendo Club for organizing this assembly!

Chardon Middle School teachers present Baseball Project at state conference
Mrs. Stephanie Steinmetz and Mrs. Stephanie Curitore, seventh grade math teachers at Chardon Middle School, recently presented their Baseball Project at the 74th Annual Conference for the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics in Columbus.
The team presented the project, which uses the statistics of current Major League Baseball players to teach probability and statistics standards, at the conference on Oct. 10. The project recently culminated with the middle school’s Baseball Day.
Steinmetz and Curitore’s conference session was enthusiastically attended by Ohio-based middle and high school math teachers, who answered baseball trivia questions, created probability models based on the statistics of Cleveland Guardians 3rd Baseman José Ramírez and shared materials.
Geauga County Public Library Mobile "Fun Bus" visits Munson Elementary
The Geauga County Public Library's mobile "Fun Bus" recently visited first graders at Munson Elementary to help them make real world connections to their reading of “My Librarian is a Camel.”
The classes have read the nonfiction text and "traveled" to countries like Australia, Finland and Kenya to find out how the children in those places get their books.
“We have learned about semi-truck libraries, book boats, camel libraries and many more,” Mrs. Jeana Hardman, first grade teacher, said.
The first grade classes listened to staff members from GCPL Chardon Branch and Mobile Services as they spoke about how they service readers all throughout Geauga County. They also read a book to the classes and gave students coloring books as well as applications for their very own library card.
