Garden Work Party
When: Friday May 10th from 11:00 – 2:00
Where: The Clay St. Garden
Please come and join us for a beautiful and productive morning in the school garden. We need lots of helpers to get the beds ready for the final spring plantings. This is a great opportunity to connect with other families and get some volunteer hours! We would love a trailer that we can fill with green waste to be hauled off if you happen to have one available. Bring your garden tools, work gloves, water bottle, extra buckets for moving soil and fancy sun hats!!
Come while the children are in school or bring them with you after pick up time. This gorgeous spring day is calling you to play, in the garden!

Butterfly Class - Fourth Grade
The Butterfly Class is hard at work on their animal projects. This beloved project will mark the culmination of the year's language arts efforts, and the children are ready for every bit of it. They now have the tools to learn from books and share their information in a cohesive and beautiful way. To cap off our animal studies, we'll travel to Wildlife Images this week to see wild animals in person and up close.
In Geography, we have stepped beyond the Rogue Valley and the state of Oregon and are now learning about Lewis and Clark and the Corps Of Discovery. These explorers braved the elements to cross rugged terrain and kept beautiful journals along the way. Through their ability to draw and write, they shared all they had seen on their expedition.
In exciting news, we've just found out that our letters to the students at the Shanti Waldorf School in Kathmandu, Nepal, have made their way across the sea and have been read and enjoyed by their recipients. This week, they will send letters back to our students. We are so excited to learn from our new friends!
While we started the year mapping our own desks, we are now starting to expand our understanding of the big, big world beyond our valley.

Ohana - Lower Grades Educational Support
In Ohana we’ve been having fun with beanbag games that support hand-eye coordination, strengthen proprioception, cross the midline, and prepare the brain and body for learning. Most Thursdays we have movement stations, which gives me an opportunity to work 1:1 with my students, while giving them opportunities to have some time with different sensory opportunities (bean pit for the feet, kinetic sand for hands, weighted blankets for nervous system regulation) as well as spelling, reading fluency and phonics practice. I feel so privileged to work with such kind, interesting, gifted students at our beautiful school.

Gratitude Gathering for the Free-Flowing Klamath River
Memorial Day Weekend: May 24 - 27 (Day passes available for Sat and Sun)
Come join in shared intention and thanksgiving for a special camping event near Hornbrook (a 45 minute drive from Ashland) celebrating the beauty and importance of the Free-Flowing Klamath River! We'll be gathering to offer our prayers, medicines, songs, and dances near the removal site of the Copco Dam, at the Deer Mountain Sanctuary. Together we will share offerings to support the healing of the Ecosystem, and celebrate the impact this healing will have on the cultures, traditions, and the futures of all relatives that depend on it. We have a weekend option, and also Saturday and Sunday are open for day passes. You can learn more HERE or contact Heddi at HeddiL@gmail.com or 707.280.7033.
Ashland Children's Theatre - The Odyssey (epically condensed) and Out of the Box
Ashland Children's Theatre presents - The Odyssey (epically condensed) and Out of the Box on May 17, 18, 19. Tickets available online only at www.ashlandchildrenstheatre.com. Written and directed by Eve Smyth, and included in the cast are Siskiyou School's own Adrian (6th grade), Azie, Layla, Miranda (7th grade), along with Kalila (8th grade) on the crew.
The Odyssey (epically condensed) is just that! Watch the "Epically Condensed Company" attempt to present the entire Odyssey, a story filled with gods and goddesses, terrifying monsters, storms and shipwrecks, cunning, courage, and heroic arts - in less than an hour. Will they do it? Come and see! (This is not your Siskiyou School Odyssey!) Out of the Box is a retelling of the Greek myth of Pandora's Box. Will Pandora's curiosity get the better of her? Or can we keep those evils contained this time? One thing is sure, Hope will prevail!
The show runs about an 1 hour and 20 minutes, including a 10 minute intermission.
