Walsh Community Update
March 2025
Dear Walsh Families,
As we step into March, we are excited about all the learning and growth happening at Walsh School! With spring approaching, we look forward to new opportunities for our students to learn, explore, and continue demonstrating PRIDE in all they do.
This month, we encourage families to continue supporting their child’s learning by engaging in conversations about their school day, reading together, and reinforcing the positive behaviors we celebrate at Walsh. We also ask for your participation in important school initiatives, including surveys and events that help strengthen our school community.
As the weather begins to change, please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor recess and activities. Spring can bring unpredictable temperatures, and we want all students to be comfortable while they play and learn.
Thank you for your continued support in making Walsh School a wonderful place for our students. Your partnership is invaluable, and we appreciate all that you do! If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
#BeABulldog!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Megan Urban
Principal, Walsh School
Understand Emotions with the Zones of Regulation
At Walsh School, students have been learning about The Zones of Regulation, a framework designed to help children recognize and manage their emotions in a simple, color-coded way.
🔵 Blue Zone – Feeling tired, sad, sick, or low-energy.
🟢 Green Zone – Feeling calm, focused, happy, and ready to learn.
🟡 Yellow Zone – Feeling frustrated, silly, anxious, or excited.
🔴 Red Zone – Feeling angry, overwhelmed, panicked, or out of control.
All feelings are normal and expected, and understanding these zones helps students communicate how they’re feeling and use strategies to regulate their emotions. Our goal is to equip children with the tools they need to navigate big emotions and develop healthy coping skills—both in school and beyond!
We encourage you to talk with your child about the Zones of Regulation at home. Ask them about what they’ve learned and how they can use the zones to manage their emotions throughout the day.
Walsh Families, We Need Your Help
We would greatly appreciate it if our Walsh families took a few minutes to complete this year's Illinois 5Essentials Survey for Walsh School. This survey provides valuable data that helps guide our district’s efforts to continuously improve our school and provide the best possible education for our students.
The 5Essentials Survey is an important tool that allows our district and state to gather insights about our school's learning environment. It is administered online by Chicago Impact at the University of Chicago on behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, and all responses are anonymous.
In order to receive results, we need at least 20% of our Walsh families to participate. Your feedback is essential in helping us grow and improve!

📅 Survey closes on March 28, 2025
Thank you for your time and support—we truly appreciate your feedback!
