RVHS Newsletter
June 1st, 2025
Principal's Message
Dear Students and Families,
Well! We made it!
This is the last newsletter of the 24-25 school year! I'd like to thank all of our students for their hard work--and thank all the parents for their support throughout this school year! It really does take a team to help everyone succeed academically--and emotionally!
New School Year
As you probably know, unless you're a graduating senior, the 25-26 school year starts on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 and is a modified day. Click the link to see next year's TVUSD calendar.
Getting Ready for Graduation:
Remember, if a student is wanting to participate (walk) in Friday's graduation ceremony at GOHS, then Wednesday, June 4th, at 1:16 pm is the last day & time to turn everything in!
That "everything" includes:
-Turn in homework, projects to your teachers
-Finish any and all required online classes
-Turn 30 Community Service hours into the Counselor or Counseling Clerk
-Complete the FAFSA or the OPT OUT (Ms. Rice can assist you with the opt out form)
-Complete the PE Waiver Form (Ms. Rice can assist you with that as well).
Students who don't think they can meet the Wednesday 1:16 pm deadline can continue to work until Friday, June 6th at 1:16 pm to see if they can earn their diploma. But they will not be allowed to walk in the graduation ceremony later that afternoon.
Senior Checkout Day Is Required for all Seniors
-Senior Checkout Day is Thursday, June 5th--the day after all work is due!
-The checkout day runs from 9-12 and then (after lunch) from 1-3 and takes around an hour
-Checkout is required for seniors who want to graduate
-The checkout day is necessary so that our counselor can make sure that all the requirements to graduate have been met by each senior wanting to participate in the ceremony the next day
-Seniors who don't attend the Checkout Day will not be able to graduate or participate in the ceremony on June 6th. They can get their diploma, but will not be able to participate in the graduation ceremony itself.
-If you and your senior have an emergency situation that prevents you from coming on June 5th for the checkout day, please let me know ASAP!
Seniors: Stop by Ms. Cammie's desk in the Library to ...
-Check to see if you have any fines due to the district from any school in TVUSD that you've attended
-Let her know if you've lost any part of your iPad gear (the iPad, the cover, the stylus, or charger)
-Pay anything that you owe
-If you owe anything to TVUSD you will be able to participate in the graduation ceremony but will not receive your diploma (until all fines are paid).
Graduation: Friday, June 6, 2025 Great Oak High School Stadium Ceremony starts at 4:30 pm
See the next article for more specific information about this Friday's graduation!
Overall, if you have any questions please let us know!
It's been a great year, and we know Friday's graduation will be a great culminating event for the 24-25 school year! See you there!
Sincerely,
David Schlottman
Principal
Important Last Week of School Information
Please note that each day of this last week of school is a MINIMUM DAY with school ending at 1:16 pm.
Things to Know About Graduation
Graduation: Friday, June 6, 2025 Great Oak High School Stadium Ceremony starts at 4:30 pm
For graduating seniors and their families, here are a few main points:
Parents:
Graduates, parents and guests may park in either parking lot, entrances marked on the map below.
Graduation Tickets are not required for entrance, it is first come, first serve in the bleachers.
Only the "home" side of the bleachers will be in use!
Parents/guests proceed to the bleachers and be seated NO LATER THAN 4:15 PM to begin the ceremony promptly at 4:30 pm. Please have all family members arrive together in order to be seated together, if possible.
There will be no standing during the ceremony in aisles, or near the rails, please be considerate of the families sitting behind you.
Strict rules and policies are being applied for the use of the stadium. NO GLITTER, BALLOONS, NOISE MAKERS, AIR HORNS, PARTY POPPERS, SPARKLES, CONFETTI, OR SILLY STRING will be allowed. NO FOOD OR DRINK other than bottled water.
Restrooms will be open and available on the north side of the stadium.
Seniors:
- Please be at the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at GOHS by 3:45 pm. BE ON TIME!
- Please come with your gown on and zipped up AND NOTHING IN YOUR HANDS!
- Remember: you must wear shoes, and they shouldn't be stiletto heels as we don't want to ruin the astro-turf!
- “Stoles” and "cords" are only allowed for recognized TVUSD Academic programs and clubs such as AVID, International Baccalaureate, Seal of Biliteracy, etc.
Caps and gowns may NOT be altered without prior administrator approval. Only students from recognized US Native American tribes may decorate their caps. Once completed, students are requested to show administration their finished cap for final approval. If you have any questions, please give us a call.
As per the rest of the district, no Leis (candy, flowers, money) are permitted at graduation. They can be worn AFTER graduation, but not in the graduation.
All graduates at Susan Nelson HS, Rancho Vista HS, and Temecula Valley Adult School (all schools at Sparkman Alternative Education Center) will be graduating together. The ceremony will last around 1 hour and 20 minutes. It is always bright and sunny and a little windy at the GOHS stadium, so come prepared!

For Students Wanting to Graduate on June 6th
Check out more info about senior check out day and fines that need to be paid by clicking on this link! Reminder: Seniors who are not graduating still need to turn in their devices!
Temecula Valley Adult School
For any of our Rancho students who may not be graduating on June 6th--we do have other options!
Temecula Valley Adult School (TVAS)
If your student is 18 years old by the time we return to school on August 13, 2025, I would highly recommend enrollment at our adult school: Temecula Valley Adult School...TVAS for short!
TVAS is on the same campus as RVHS--as pictured above. Their number is: 951-294-6512.
TVAS is a great way to earn a diploma if you're 18 or older. It is an independent studies model, meaning that most of the work is done at home with students coming in one day a week for about an hour to turn in work and take tests. TVAS only requires 175 credits to graduate...that's lower than Rancho Vista which requires 190 credits to graduate (and lower than all the high schools in the area which require 220 credits to graduate). TVAS has good success in helping students graduate, and most of the students in attendance are from either Rancho Vista HS or Susan Nelson HS.
The adult school is not open during the summer, but will start up again around the first week of August (Monday, August 4, 2025). We would encourage any of our students who are 18 years old and who are NOT on track to graduate--to sign up for the adult school in August!
Students Who are English Learners or Who Have an IEP
If your student has an IEP or has a designation as an English Learner, you should know that both sets of students are automatically granted (by regulation) a 5th year at Rancho Vista--if they would like one. The 5th year is not mandatory, but we would highly recommend taking advantage of the 5th year option! It is very important to earn a high school diploma...so even if it's a little inconvenient (or a little uncomfortable) to return for a 5th year---it's better to do it and get the diploma than NOT GET THE DIPLOMA! Rancho Vista is a great place for students to study and get the extra help that they need! If your student has an IEP or is an English Learner and you would like for them to have a 5th year here at Rancho, please let us know. For students with an IEP you would contact their teacher who works with you in IEP meetings (Mrs. Kalldin or Mrs. McFarland). For students who are English Learners, please contact Mrs. Christine Kelly!
All Other Students
If your student doesn't fit into any of the above categories, and you're interested in other options please let me (David Schlottman) know! We have a few suggestions that can help your student get their diploma.
Thanks,
David Schlottman

Annual Family Update
Annual Family Update
Returning RVHS students, it's time to complete the Annual Family Update (online registration). This update is crucial for officially enrolling your student for the 2025-2026 school year. Failure to complete it may result in your student not being enrolled. We highly recommend completing it as soon as possible. Community Service: 30 Hours Required to Graduate This Year
I've noticed that for some readers unless this newsletter is opened as a webpage some of the links don't work! Here's a link to the "Community Service" log!
ALSO: some students have been asking if they can graduate (get their diploma and attend the graduation ceremony) without completing the 30 hours. The answer is no! Students must complete the 30 hours in order to be considered a graduate in our district!
Mission Hope: Food Assistance
We understand that unexpected challenges, such as job loss or other financial hardships, can create food insecurities for families, especially during this time.
If your household is in need of food assistance, we encourage you to use the link immediately below to request support from our local food pantry, Mission Hope.
https://forms.gle/dwkV6LwSpSmCa8k58
Through this partnership, we can discreetly send a backpack filled with non-perishable food items home with your student.
Please know that all information submitted to Mission Hope remains confidential and will not be shared with the school or anyone outside of Mission Hope. We will only receive notification of which student needs a backpack. Our goal is to support our students and families in any way we can.
If you have any questions, would like further information, or need help with the application, please contact Ms. Julia at (951) 695-7320 ext. 24018; jcarrillo@tvusd.us.
Mission Hope: Necesidades Alimentarias
24018; jcarrillo@tvusd.us.
EBike Safety Guidelines
We know that a lot of our students ride a bike or ebike to school!
Please check out the NEW SAFETY GUIDELINES put out by our district office in coordination with local law enforcement. If your student is riding a bike to school this is a must read! There are different laws for each type of bike. Check out those rules linked above.
And, regardless of the type of bike, please know that all students under 18 MUST WEAR A HELMET! That's a good starting point for safety while on a bike! Please review the link above and talk with your student about safe biking to school!
FOOD DELIVERY
Students may NOT order food to be delivered to school through Grub Hub, Door Dash, Uber Eats or any food delivery. If a parent brings food in, it can only be for their student and it must be left with the front office and the student may pick it up during lunch time only.
Attendance Matters
