Message from the School Nurse
September is Lice Prevention Month.
Head lice are a common occurrence among school-age children. Head lice are spread through direct contact with or sharing personal items with someone who already has them. Please remind your children how important it is not to share hats, combs, brushes, headbands, hair elastics, helmets etc….
With the knowledge that children have sleepovers, parties, and play dates, it’s recommended that you periodically check your child’s hair for any signs of head lice. It is best to do a head check in natural sunlight. Head lice are small, brown insects, no larger than the size of a sesame seed, that live and feed on the human scalp. Nits are tiny, whitish ovals that are firmly glued to the hair shaft usually close to the scalp. Often they are located at the nape of the neck, behind the ears and at the crown of the head, but they can be found anywhere on the head. Please review the CDC's guidance on treating your child for head lice
Per the CDC Guidelines, students should not be excluded from school for having lice. However, we ask that you please inform your school nurse if your child does have a confirmed case of lice so that additional measures can be taken to help ensure effective treatment.

GMS New School Construction Update
We had our Green Meadow Blast Party this week to celebrate the new school and learn about the process of breaking up the rock behind our school building to make way for the next phase of the construction. With the help of many staff members, we read the book, If I Built a School, by Chris VanDusen, and then learned about the job of being a blaster and how they keep things safe. Members of the construction crew participated, answering questions from the students about the process. The photo below features members of the construction crew and our Team Chair, Katie Chagnon.
The projected date for beginning the blasting is September 30. We will share information from Northern Construction outlining the process with families next week.
